Injury nightmare for Aberdeen and Ireland midfielder Jamie McGrath
Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin has confirmed the worst for the Meath native.
Jamie McGrathâs season could be over, with Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin stating on Friday that the Ireland international faces âa couple of monthsâ on the sidelines.
McGrath was forced to undergo surgery to heal a shoulder injury. He now faces âan intensive rehab programmeâ - according to the clubâs official website.
According to Thelin: âJamie is out for a couple of months due to his shoulder injury.
âJamie is a great player for us. Heâs multifunctional, he can play in different positions, and he always gives everything. Thatâs something we have to work on.
âThese shoulder injuries, it is really bad luck. We have to stay positive and support him. Itâs important that he gets back as soon as possible, but for now, we need to support the players who are available.
âThey are positive guys, they are doing the best they can do.â
McGrath, capped 13 times for Ireland, is a former St Patrickâs Athletic and Dundalk player who made the move across the Irish Sea in 2020 when he joined St Mirren.
After a successful spell there, he moved south of the border to Wigan Athletic, where he featured just four times.
But after a loan spell at Dundee United, where he scored nine goals in 37 appearances, he was snapped up by Aberdeen in the summer of 2023.
McGrath has scored 14 times in 64 appearances for the Dons - and the club on Friday posted an update on his condition.
It read: âJamie McGrath has unfortunately sustained a shoulder injury and following surgery will now undertake an intensive rehab programme. He is expected to be sidelined for a number of months. We wish Jamie a speedy recovery.â
