Inside Tommy Fury's dark spiral from 'leaving Bambi' to black-out benders
As Tommy Fury breaks his silence on the truth behind his split from Molly-Mae and opens up about his alcohol struggles, The Mirror takes a look inside his dark battles
Tommy Fury's mental health and relationship with alcohol took a downward spiral following a boxing injury.
The former Love Island star has finally broken his silence on why his engagement to Molly-Mae Hague ended and has claimed it had nothing to do with infidelity. The reality TV star and boxer, 25, has blamed their sudden split on his dependency on alcohol and shut down rumours of him cheating on the mother of his beloved daughter, one-year-old Bambi.
In a candid interview, Tommy has slammed the online speculation as 'complete and utter b***ocks' and said the reason they split was because he found himself reliant on booze and "couldn't be the partner that I wanted to be anymore". He said: "It kills me to say it, [but] it's true, I couldn't. I loved a pint of beer, loved to drink, and it is what it is."

Tommy told Men's Health magazine: "People go through different things in life and we all have our crosses to bear. I've got mine to bear." He explained that his issues with alcohol began after he sustained a boxing injury and snapped the ligaments in his hand in 2019, which eventually led to reconstructive surgery at the start of last year.
He has said his "mental health was in the pan" after the operation and he felt a part of his identity was removed when he could no longer box or train. Tommy and Molly met in the Love Island villa in 2019 and became parents to Bambi in January 2023. Later that year, he popped the question and the couple made plans to get married.
But in August 2024, Molly took to Instagram to announce their shock break-up, writing: "After five years of being together I never imagined our story would end, especially not this way. I am extremely upset to announce that mine and Tommy's relationship has come to an end." Tommy said that he had been left 'heartbroken' by their separation.
'Black-out drunk' sessions
In his new interview, Tommy admitted that his relationship with Molly began to suffer thanks to his 'black-out drunk' drinking sessions, which saw him party with controversial American singer Chris Brown in 2023.
He said: "I've only lived for training and my family, and that was all snatched away from me. So what I did for fun is I started to drink quite a lot. I found that's what made me feel better. I wanted the endorphins that I'd get when I'd finish a good session, when I'd finish sparring, when I'd finish fighting."
Despite going to a dark place, he said he never cheated on Molly and maintained his relationship with Bambi. He said: "Cheating was never a thing. You can ask Molly this yourself. It was the drink, and the drink is not a good thing. You need to get a grip of it. If you're in the same spot as me, where you just think that it's going to cure all your problems, it doesn't. You wake up even worse and you want to drink more to try and feel happy again. That's the cycle of it."

MEN'S HEALTH)'Blazing rows over Bambi'
Earlier last year, Molly and Tommy reportedly got into a heated row after the professional boxer allegedly left their daughter Bambi with a nanny to go on a night out with his friends. Those close to the former couple claimed that the incident put huge strain and tension on their relationship.
Speaking to Mail Online after their split, a source claimed that Molly had taken a rare night away from parenting duties when she went to stay at her mother's home in Hertfordshire. She entrusted their daughter Bambi, who was 12 months old at the time, with her dad Tommy. But when she returned, her lavish home was a 'mess'.
Tommy's hungover friends were reportedly still sprawled out asleep on the couches in their ÂŁ3.5million Cheshire home. What allegedly hurt Molly the most was Tommy's decision to leave Bambi in the care of the nanny instead of looking after her himself, a plan which they had reportedly discussed.
It led to a blazing row and Molly was left 'deeply upset' with Tommy over his behaviour, sources claimed. The Mirror approached Tommy and Molly's respective representatives for comment at the time.

Rumours of problems in their relationship arose when Tommy hit the clubs in Dubai at the end of 2023. He was filmed partying topless with controversial singer Chris Brown, surrounded by a group of women, before heading to Abu Dhabi to take in the Formula One Grand Prix. One viral video showed a woman grabbing Tommy's cheeks playfully.
After sharing his own snap from the United Arab Emirates, fans hit out at the boxer for not "spending any time" with his family. The boxer was also seen partying with Married At First Sight star Laura Vaughan at a Christmas bash in 2023 hosted by their shared talent agency, Alpha Talent Group.

A source told The Sun at the time: "Molly has made no secret of the fact she doesn't like it when Tommy parties too hard. The weekend has ended up being a real embarrassment to her. She was mortified when she kept getting tagged in videos while she was just trying to enjoy a festive weekend with Bambi."
But Molly hit back at social media trolls spreading rumours about her relationship, dismissing claims. "I read things online and it doesn't even resonate with me," she said in a Q&A on her YouTube channel. "I feel like I'm reading about someone else's life because half the time it feels that way because the stuff isn't true anyway."
Molly's fears over alcohol
Molly has spoken candidly about how she stays away from alcohol and doesn't enjoy partying. In her memoir, Becoming Molly-Mae, My Story, she penned: "The only major arguments Tommy and I have had have been to do with him drinking, which he only does a few times a year.
"He won't even do anything wrong; I'll just lose it at him because I hate it. I do have this anxiety around alcohol and the things I've seen it do to the people around me - I personally don't think that alcohol adds anything good to a situation."
Secret mental health struggle
After their split, Tommy revealed he had struggled immensely with his mental health. The boxer said 2024 was a test for him mentally and described the gym as his "medication" because it made him feel better. Speaking to the Daily Mail ahead of the publication of his book Lightning Can Strike Twice, Tommy said life had "not been sunshine and flowers" for a series of reasons.
Addressing his struggles, he said: "Probably this past year has been the most my mental health has been tested. It's not been Âsunshine and rainbows. The gym is my medication. Tell me when you come out of the gym after a great session feeling bad? Never!"
He also said that he turned "from a boy into a man" when his father, John Fury, was jailed for 11 years after gouging a man's eye out in a fight. Tommy said those difficult years taught him that life "isn't going to go the way you want it to and there are going to be bumps in the road but there's no good crying over it."
He added: "You've got to just get on with it and approach it in the best way possible. I don't wallow in it. There's no point because wallowing won't fix it."
It came after Tommy hinted at his alcohol addiction and declared the truth would come out. He said: "The truth will come out in time and when it does I think a lot of people might regret their actions and unkind words. The whole world will, I reckon."

Birmingham Mail)'Challenging phase'
In the months before their split, Molly revealed she was struggling with 'solo-parenting' Bambi while Tommy was busy with work commitments. She opened up in several vlogs about feeling alone while he was forced to prioritise his audiobook. In one, Molly said: "I have been solo parenting pretty much the entire week. Actually, I've been solo parenting for like, two weeks now, basically because Tommy's just been so busy.
"When he's home from doing work and stuff, he's so incredible and so helpful. I can't say any different, like, he's such an incredible dad, but I have been this week, like, just really... mum life has been mum life-ing." She went on to discuss her new struggles and said: "I feel like we're going through a little bit of a challenging phase. Not only with Bambi, but also just with me and trying to juggle a lot."
