Invincible's Robert Kirkman, Superman & Lois' Bitsie Tulloch & More Come Together For LA Wildfire Relief
â??When you help someone, you help everyone."
From Superman to Invincible, last weekend was one for superheroes of all kinds. ScreenRant attended the MultiCon Los Angeles Wildfire Benefit on February 22 and had the chance to speak to the stars and creatives that bring fan-favorite supes to the screen about their real-life heroism and the act of giving back to their communities. The event took place at The Preserve LA, featuring panels and exclusive collectibles for fans, all meant to support LA wildfire relief efforts through the United Way of Greater Los Angeles.
The talent included a wide array of beloved celebrities, from Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld to Superman & Lois leading lady Bitsie Tulloch. We also spoke to Yuri Lowenthal (the voice of Peter Parker in Marvel’s Spider-Man video game series), who shared his own feelings about the aftermath of the wildfires. “I feel paralyzed because I don't know how to help everybody that needs help.” But he saw Aunt May’s advice as a call to action: “When you help someone, you help everyone."

ScreenRant interviewed top-tier superhero talent about stepping up in their daily lives with the help of the MultiCon Los Angeles Wildfire Benefit, but the stars and creatives were also eager to open up about their recent and upcoming projects. Watch the videos and read the excerpts below for some exciting updates relating to Creature Commandos, Invincible, X-Men ’97, and much more.
Robert Kirkman Reveals Which Comic Series He’d Like To Adapt After InvincibleScreenRant: What does it mean for you to be a part of something like that that's helping with the LA wildfire relief?
Robert Kirkman: Yeah, it was a huge tragedy. It's affected tons of people, so anything I can do to help out, [I will]. I'm always happy to help out.
ScreenRant: Invincible has taken off in comics and animated form. Did you ever think that it would resonate so deeply with audiences?
Robert Kirkman: You always hope people are going to respond to what you're doing, find what you're doing, and enjoy what you're doing. But you never know, so it did come as a bit of a surprise.
When we were working on the first season, we really felt strongly about these characters and really loved this world. For me, having done the comic for 16 years, getting back into it was super exciting. But we didn't know that the response was gonna be this huge, so it really kind of took us by surprise.
ScreenRant: If you could bring any one of your lesser-known comics to TV or film, which would it be, and why?
Robert Kirkman: You put me on the spot. It's hard to pick. I think there's a lot of potential in Tech Jacket, seeing how people are responding to Invincible. That series didn't get to go as long as invincible, but I had a lot of plans for it, and I feel like it could be a nice sister title to Invincible. There's a lot of similarities, but a lot of big differences. And I think there's a cool sci-fi aspect to it that could be neat.
Bitsie Tulloch Has Some Future Superman & Lois Storylines Up Her Sleeve"Could It Be Revived In Some Way?"ScreenRant: MultiCon is not only celebrating fandoms but also giving back to the community. How does it feel to be a part of something that's part of wildfire relief in LA?
Bitsie Tulloch: I believe I was approached at the Saturn Awards about doing this, and I was like, "Absolutely, I'll do it," because I have been trying to do as much as I possibly could. I had been in contact with a family that had had an autistic teenager who lost their noise canceling headphones in the fire, and [my husband] David actually dropped off some Beats Studio Pro headphones to this family today on their way to the LA Zoo.
I'm trying to do as much to help out as possible, but feeling helpless overall because the situation is so dire and so devastating. But I was so stoked to be able to lend my time and energy to an effort like this. And United Way is great.
ScreenRant: Superman & Lois season 4 was incredible, and you guys absolutely stuck the landing. But if Jonathan and Jordan's stories were to carry on, where would you like to see them go?
Bitsie Tulloch: It'd be interesting to see them having to figure out what it's like to handle the way that Jonathan got his powers all at once, and whether that would cause any friction with the boys going forward. Given their age, they [could tackle] college. What would college be like for them? Obviously, they're public figures because they were sort of outed, so to speak, as superheroes.
Yeah, never say never. Everyone's always saying, "Could it be revived in some way?" And at the end of the day, it's a superhero show, so anything could happen. But I like the way we finish the series, and I'm proud of the how Todd [Helbing] and Brent [Fletcher] and the writers stuck the landing, especially given the fact that we were dealing with budget and cast cuts.
Rob Liefeld Looks Back On 33 Years Of Image Comics & Teases Youngblood Live-Action Possibilities"If I Told You Their Names, They'd Stagger You"ScreenRant: I'm a Youngblood guy, and you're finally bringing a new print to fans. What made it the right time to return to that franchise?
Rob Liefeld: It's 33 years ago in just a few weeks that we launched Image Comics. It's Spring, and this time of year always brings me back. And now, this is all I'm doing. All I'm doing is Youngblood. So, I produced the print in order to get people focused and reminded of what Youngblood means to people.
ScreenRant: What are the chances we ever get Youngblood in live-action?
Rob Liefeld: We're meeting with people who, if I told you their names, would stagger you. It's incredible, when we put the announcement out that we're bringing it back, we got a deluge of interest because people grew up loving Youngblood. We're in some interesting talks with a lot of great, talented people, and we have some decisions to make, but that is the intent.
The '90s have not been properly represented from Image Comics. Other than Spawn, which was 30 years ago, what happened? Why can't we get movies on the screen? Look, it's very competitive. It's very difficult. Marvel and DC, their their success and failure really dictates what else is kind of allowed. Everyone is becoming more and more risk-averse, so you've really got to show up and represent. The great thing about Youngblood is that it has the audience, it has the numbers, it has the legacy, and it has the lore. So, I'm really excited.
Kevin Smith Has Some Very Valuable Advice For James Gunn’s DCU“He Just Needs To Be James Gunn”ScreenRant: James Gunn is taking over the DCU. What does he need to do to stick the landing for Superman?
Kevin Smith: He just needs to be James Gunn. He's such an artful storyteller. He's absolutely one of the best of us. He needs to prove nothing to anybody, considering he's made three unbelievably wonderful films out of Guardians, which is one of the worst comic books I ever read in my life.
And with all due respect, I'm sure whoever wrote that, every time I say that, they're like, "F--k you. You did yoga Hosers." Fair enough. I'm not saying I've never done anything better, but I remember reading that comic book, and I remember years later when they were like, "We're doing that." I was like, "Why? Why would you do that?" And then you see that movie is one of the best Marvel movies ever made, if not one of the finest motion pictures.
It's just fun, and it defines what cinema should be. This is a man who knows how to do that. He had his training with the best; Lloyd Kaufman and Troma Studios. James has paid his dues, he's done storytelling across the studio system, and this ain't his first dance with Warner Brothers. He's a Scooby-Doo kid. Based on the trailer I've seen, you got me! He understands the genre. He's a reader of comics, and it shows.
ScreenRant: Can you give us an update on Mallrats 2?
Kevin Smith: Nothing! Universal does not seem to know that they own the movie nor care. You know, they've got bigger fish to fry. Every time I bring it in, they're like, "This is neither Fast nor Furious," so I don't know that it's ever going to happen. But I dream. I dream. I'm still keeping it alive.
Maybe something big would have to happen in order for them to reconsider and whatnot. And I don't know that I've got anything big left in my pockets over the course of my career. I think we've seen everything I could do. Like, I just did Clerks 3. I'm doing another Jay and Silent Bob movie. All I do are movies with numbers in the titles now, so I don't know if they'll let me do Mallrats 2, but I hope and dream all the time.

Isaac Robinson-Smith Is Ready To Explore Bishop’s Past(s) In X-Men ’97 Season 2“He Doesn't Really Have A Home, Necessarily, Anywhere”ScreenRant: When you read the script for X-Men '97, what were some of the things that immediately jumped out to you?
Isaac Robinson-Smith: "I can't believe it's back." Originally, I got the call to do the role [while] doing a game called Starfield for Bethesda. I was like, "I'm doing this thing, and now I'm getting this show"! Then when I got the script, the first page laid out that it's the world of beepers again, and we're back in the '90s, laying out the whole world of what it was. It got a part of myself excited that I hadn't felt in a long time; I was like re-awakened.
I felt nostalgic, I felt excited, and I felt grateful most of all because I'm now friends with people that I grew up watching since a lot of the original cast is back. It was just a whole bunch of feelings that are still reverberating now. It's been almost a year since the beginning of season 1, and it's been amazing since then.
ScreenRant: Where do you want Bishop to go in season 2?
Isaac Robinson-Smith: Personally, I would love to see more of a background for him because he's a man out of time, so he doesn't really have a home, necessarily, anywhere. I would love to see an exploration of where he came from and how he feels about it on a deeper level because he got that in the first series, in the original in '92.
I'm actually going through reading the comics to get a sense of his story on a bigger level for myself, but I would love to see his past - even though he lives in different past. I'd love to see more of him and how he develops and what his feelings are on a deeper level, and hopefully I'll get to explore that as the character in season 2.
ScreenRant: Back in the '90s, there was the X-Men Blue Team and Gold Team. If X-Men '97 were to spin off into two shows, would you like to see Bishop be a part of the X-Men Gold Team?
Isaac Robinson-Smith: Sure! I'm doing my own exploration of the history of it, so I need to look more into [the teams], but I think just more possibilities with the character would be great in general.
ScreenRant: MultiCon is not only celebrating fandoms but also giving back to the community. How does it feel to be a part of something that's part of wildfire relief in LA?
Sean Gunn: I have a lot of friends and family members who are affected by the fires, and so anything that we can do to give back, I was all on board for it. I like saying to people who often seem lost about, "What can I do to help?" "Well, we can do this. These are things that we are able to go and do." I can sign, I could take pictures, I could do panels, or whatever. I could do this all day, and it's all for a good cause. So, I'm really, really happy to be here.
ScreenRant: I didn't think I'd get so emotional during a Weasel episode, but I was in tears. How much did you know about Weasel's fate that episode? Did you know anything about it when you were doing The Suicide Squad, and what was your first thought?
Sean Gunn: I think I knew. I didn't know the extent of the backstory, but I knew pretty early on that Weasel was innocent. When they talked about Weasel having killed all these children, I had known that he didn't really. I knew pretty early.
And then when James had the whole concept for Creature Commandos, he broke it all down for me and went through the whole story pretty shortly before we started recording.
ScreenRant: I love me some GI robot. Have we seen the last of that character?
Sean Gunn: Gosh, I hope not. I hope not. I hope he comes back a little bigger and stronger than ever. Now, I don't have any info yet about season 2, but I know we're making a season 2. I hope that GI Robot gets to halt fascism some more.
The thing about Creature Commandos is that they're not all the best characters. There are some real sharp edges to those guys. But my characters are pretty good. GI Robot is very altruistic. He's got one thing he's doing. And Weasel is adorable, right? So, I'm very excited to slip back in their skin and see where they go.
Cyborg Never Ages – At Least Not In Khary Payton’s Book“We Write It For The Parents Now”ScreenRant: You are a legend in my household for one singular role: Cyborg. How has the character evolved for you?
Khary Payton: It's so cool to play a character for as long as I have. It was over 20 years ago, the first time that I played Cyborg. A friend of mine brought her niece over to say hello, and her niece was 30. She was like, "I was 10 years old watching Teen Titans when I was a kid, and you guys were my friends growing up because Mom and Dad were off at work. You were part of my little crew that helped raise me."
It was a really cool show back then, and now it's gotten all silly. Honestly, we write it for the parents more than the kids now. It's just crazy to think that a 10-year-old then is 30 now. It makes me feel old for a second, but I also feel like we're doing pretty good.
Yuri Lowenthal Expands On Aunt May’s Motto For Spider-Man“I Have Issues With Responsibility”ScreenRant: What have you learned about yourself through playing Spider-Man?
Yuri Lowenthal: I have issues with responsibility to start with, and maybe that's what drew me to the role. And by that, I mean that I think I take it too much to heart, like Peter does. I've said this once before, but it bears repeating. People ask sometimes who Spider Man's worst villain is, and I would say it's Uncle Ben because Uncle Ben told him, "With great power comes great responsibility."
He believes he has so much power, and he believes he's responsible for everyone all the time. In essence, because of what Ben told him, he's never going to be happy. But then Aunt May said, "When you help someone, you help everyone," and that was the balance or salve to what Ben said in my mind. I talked to the writer about it, and he was like, "I did not even consider that." Some things are just meant to happen.
