Is Netflix down? Streaming service back online following global outage
Netflix’s status page says the streaming service is back to normal after it went dark on Thursday evening
Netflix is back up and running after a major outage knocked the streaming giant offline for thousands of users around the world on Thursday evening.
The service went down about 7pm UK time, just as fans were gearing up to binge the final season of You.
Viewers across the UK, US, Europe and the Middle East reported issues on DownDetector, ranging from login failures to being randomly signed out, seeing the wrong profiles, or being hit with endless error messages while trying to stream.
Netflix acknowledged the disruption on its website, saying that the platform wasn’t down everywhere but that “some members in select regions” were having trouble accessing the service.
“I wanted to continue watching the last season of You and my Netflix is DOWN,” a user posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Netflix is still down & not working. It collapses, gives standard codes and if you login again it just starts over and over. This is on all devices across – except iPhone (which also will not continue to next episode). Hope it gets resolved quickly,” said another.
As of Friday morning, Netflix’s status page shows a green tick, confirming that everything is (apparently) back to normal. “We are not currently experiencing an interruption to our streaming service,” it reads. Still, the cause of the blackout remains a mystery.
Since then, the streamer has faced technical hiccups during high-profile live events – most notably the Love is Blind reunion and the much-hyped Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson boxing match.
In both cases, the sheer number of viewers appeared to overload Netflix’s systems. The company blamed the disruptions on “unprecedented demand” and admitted there was “room for improvement”.
While Netflix said the Tyson bout was a win, citing record-breaking engagement, the glitches prompted a class-action lawsuit, which accused Netflix of breach of contract.
