Jake Paul slams Conor McGregor as he praises Paul Hughes
Even while praising Paul Hughes, Jake Paul finds time to take a shot at Conor McGregor.
Jake Paul has slammed Conor McGregor while simultanously praising Irish MMA star Paul Hughes.
Hughes was involved in a fight of the year contender with Usman Nurmagomedov in Dubai on Saturday night, losing a Bellator World Lightweight title fight by a narrow decision margin.
Belfast native Hughes has earned plaudits for taking Nurmagomedov the distance and giving the undefeated Dagestani the toughest fight of his career.
If the champion's name sounds familiar it is likely due to the fame of his cousin, Khabib Nurmagomedov, former rival of Conor McGregor and a man widely considered to be one of the greatest MMA fighters in history.
Khabib famously submitted McGregor in the fourth round of their 2018 fight, something which Paul clearly hasn't forgotten as he took to social media last night to troll McGregor.
"Paul Hughes did what Conor McGregor couldn’t do. Congrats my guy. You won regardless of the outcome. Big ups to both men," posted Paul on X in a clear reference to McGregor's loss to Nurmagomedov seven years ago.
Conor McGregor with Jake and Logan Paul
Paul's comments should come as no surprise as McGregor clashed with both Jake and his brother Logan Paul at Donald Trump's Presidential Inauguration ceremony last week.
McGregor has long been rumoured to be in line to fight Jake, but reports have emerged in recent times suggesting that The Notorious One is set to fight Logan instead.
Last week, a video emerged showing McGregor's exchange with the two Paul's. In the clip, McGregor says to the pair: "This is the real deal confronting you, you know that, so look here we'll do it."
He then turns to Jake and says: "He was sick. He was sick over it (McGregor looking to fight Logan)."
The former two-weight UFC champion later adds: "I’m gonna slap the head off of the two of yous, and KSI. You are nixers to me, you understand that, side jobs, little side jobs."
Logan highlights the fact McGregor has not fought in three and a half years, responding: "You can't even do your main job, how are you going to do a side job?"
The WWE star then references McGregor's infamous attack on a bus carrying UFC fighters, including Khabib Nurmagomedov, in 2018 when he threw a dolly through a window.
He added: "It's crazy being on a bus with you. There's a dolly bro that would be going through a window."
