BBC Breakfast: Jamie Laing emotional as he speaks about challenge

TV personality Jamie Laing became tearful as he opened up about 'really struggling' after completing his momentous Comic Relief run.

Jamie Laing, the TV sensation and BBC Radio 1 celebrity, has just undergone a huge fundraising mission for Comic Relief. The 36 year-old toughed it out on a trek from London to Salford, running for a remarkable 150 miles.

Throughout the week, fans could follow Jamie's progress on social media, witnessing first-hand the increasing toll the challenge took on him. There were instances when support from friends and family was essential as he limped through the pain.

Despite the physical ordeal, Jamie soldiered on valiantly and triumphantly hit the finish line on Friday afternoon, amassing an impressive £2,053,835.

It was an emotionally charged completion, with the ex-Made In Chelsea star often found in tears at several checkpoints. On Saturday's BBC Breakfast, Jamie, still recovering, chatted with presenters Ben Thompson and Rachel Burden confessing that it was one of the toughest experiences he's ever had, reports The Mirror.

Ben probed into Jamie's motivation, particularly during those strenuous moments when exhaustion set in and his body seemed to rebel. Jamie replied: "I really didn't want to let anyone down. I think that was it."

He reflected on the greater purpose of his efforts, commenting: "I've lived a very lucky life. I have a roof over my head, I have a lovely family, I have lovely friends. Lots of people don't have that, and you see the pain that people go through every single day. I just thought people are in real pain."

The BBC radio personality was visibly moved as he recounted the touching support from a young admirer during his charity run, adding: "There was one young girl, 12 years old- It's going to make me go now."

Regaining his composure, he added: "She was going through chemo and she had donated her pocket money.

"When you think of that, when you think of that, you think, 'Well, of course you're going to do this'. So, that's what got me through, it was just an amazing experience."

Towards the end of the interview, Ben and Rachel noted Jamie's difficulty walking into the studio. When asked about his condition post-run, Jamie admitted: "I'm really struggling to be honest. There's a lot of pain going on."

He expressed gratitude for the exceptional care provided by his team over the five-day period, describing them as 'incredible'. Inquisitive, Rachel inquired about his first meal after completing the ultra-marathon, to which he disclosed indulging in a pizza and a scotch egg.

As the conversation wrapped up, Ben encouraged Jamie to get some rest. Taking to social media over the weekend, Jamie extended heartfelt thanks for the overwhelming support he received.

Part of his message included: "I'm going to start with the Team behind it all, @bbcradio1 @comicrelief everyone. You have no idea the organisation, the balance of moments the catering, physio, logistics, mapping, planning, socials, everything that goes into something like this. It's completely mind blowing - and there was not one slip up, not one moment that wasn't completely seamless.

"That shows true leadership and true team work. Every single person was passionate, excited and drove me forward each day so thank you to everyone!!! To my @bbcradio1 family - wow you guys brought me in with open arms and accepted me from day 1. Words cannot express how grateful I am for you!! Truly."

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
