In the heart of Leadgate, a village that had never boasted its own boxing club, Jamie Welsh is making waves with his newly established boxing academy. A local lad with a passion for pugilism, Jamie has transformed his love for the sport into a beacon of hope for the community.
“Get the kids off the street and give a bit back to Leadgate. I’m too old for fighting, but I’m not too old to help these kids find a positive path,” Jamie declares, embodying the spirit of his mission.

Jamie’s journey in boxing began in his youth when he joined a local club and discovered his calling. Years of dedication to training and coaching culminated in his decision to open Leadgate’s first boxing academy. Now, six months since its inception, the academy is already making a significant impact. The academy offers three weekly sessions, catering to all ages and abilities. There’s a Kids’ Class for 4 to 10-year-olds, nurturing young talent from an early age. The Open Class, for ages 8 and up, welcomes everyone from aspiring Olympians to fitness enthusiasts looking to improve their health.
Jamie’s qualifications as a Level 1 Amateur Boxing Coach and his certification from the British Board of Boxing Control underscore his commitment to professional standards. His approach goes beyond teaching boxing techniques; it’s about building confidence, fostering community spirit, and offering a positive outlet for local youth.
As Jamie Welsh continues to train and inspire the people of Leadgate, his boxing academy stands as a testament to the power of community initiatives. It’s not just about learning to throw a punch; it’s about giving the village’s residents, especially its youth, a fighting chance at a brighter future.
