LM: Jeff Brazier opens up about parenting as a single father
Jeff Brazier has insisted that 'he can't be the answer to everything' as a single parent to sons Bobby, 21, and Freddy, 20, following the sad death of their mother Jade Goody. Big Brother star Jade died after a battle with cervical cancer when she was just 27-years-old back in 2009 when her sons were just five and four.
Since then, their dad Jeff have been raising Bobby and Freddy as a single parent. Appearing on Loose Men on Tuesday morning alongside Craig Doyle, Iain Stirling, and Jordan Banjo, Jeff, 45, opened up about the struggles of being an only parent - and especially to two sons.
The panel spoke about their challenges in parenting following the impact of Stephen Graham's Netflix series, Adolescence, which depicts the story of a family crumbling to its knees after a 13-year-old schoolboy is accused of murdering his classmate who is a young girl.
Discussing what worried parents can do to protect their children in a society that is becoming more increasingly misogynistic by the minute, Jeff told his fellow panelists that it is not all down to what parents do. The Celebrity Race Across The World star insisted that society is a huge problem when it comes to young men, as well as expectations placed upon them.
Jeff also addressed Andrew Tate's damaging influence on young men who call label themselves as Incels, believing that no woman will ever want or love them because they don't fit a certain standard. Speaking about his own experience in trying to protect his sons Bobby and Freddy, Jeff said: "I can't be the answer to everything."
Reflecting on how he managed to cope following Jade's death, Jeff admitted that he cut a lot of people out of his life at the time and solely focused on raising his sons. He told the panel: "I thought to myself 'Ive got two children on my own' so I had to just get on with it, so I made my world really small, and just dealt with was in front of me."
"The proud dad of-two then added that he has worked on himself when it comes to showing the full scale of his emotions in front of his sons in a bid to remind them that it's okay to be emotional as a man. He said: "You need to be able to show your sons the full emotions that men can have instead of hiding away your emotions. I wasn't able to be the 'full menu' when I was younger but I have done the work now and it's paid off."
