Jennifer Lawrence Glorifies 'Sleeping With the Director' On Hollywood Set Amid Blake Lively's Sexual Harassment Saga: 'You Know What to Do!'

Mother! star Jennifer Lawrence is sharing a controversial tip for movie actors to better their filming experience amid Blake Lively’s spat with director Justin Baldoni. The actress, who is happily married to Cooke Maroney never holds back when it comes to her private life. One scandalous confession saw her open up about her previous relationship with director Darren Aronofsky who Jennifer Lawrence met on the set of the 2017 thriller, Mother! Although the two have since parted ways, the star admits dating the director during that time sure had its perks.
Speaking with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, Jennifer Lawrence admitted that the horror film, Mother! still confused her to date despite her close ties with the director at the time. The thriller follows a renowned poet, Him, and his wife Mother whose tranquil life turns upside down when uninvited guests show up at their home. The name choices, psychological play, and twists make the movie a bizarre mess many struggled to understand.

Jennifer admitted that despite being the titular character in the movie, she had difficulty grasping the plot, just like many others. However, her relationship with director Darren Aronofsky made it somewhat better, and less confusing for Jennifer Lawrence. Asked how well she understood the psychological thriller, “on a scale of one to totally confused,” the star quipped,
“I’m going to be honest. Well, I was sleeping with the director, so I had CliffsNotes. So… five? Or a four. But if anybody needs any tips on understanding their films, you know what to do!”
Her comment appeared to imply that actors who needed help understanding their film should “sleep with the director,” just as she did. Attempting to clarify if he understood her joke rightly, Cohen asked, “F–k the director?” To that, Jennifer responded “Yeah.”
While an apparent joke, netizens were quick to jump on the confession, accusing the star of “f–king” her way to fame. The ethical implication of stars dating their directors or filmmakers on-set has been widely debated, with experts advising against it. This actor-director relationship has often led to rancor which may eventually affect the movie’s performance along the line.
Additionally, many directors have been linked to increasing cases of sexual harassment on movie sets, some occuring years after the film’s release. Many of these actors claim they had no say because they feared turning down the director could negatively affect their spot in the movie project. There have also been cases of directors making advances at actors considered inappropriate, leading to lawsuits with harsh criminal implications.
Image source: MegaAlthough her relationship with Darren Aronofsky was admittedly consensual, Jennifer Lawrence herself has admitted dating her director was “unhealthy” for her. In a previous interview, the star recounted how Darren treated Mother! as his baby, making her go on endless press tours with him and only wanting to talk about the movie and nothing else while they dated.
She likened the ordeal to “doing double duty” as a supportive partner even when she craved a brief second of thinking of anything else but Mother! Hence, while it paid off on-set, sleeping with the director does have its downsides.
Jennifer Lawrence’s controversial “tip” seeped into the headlines amid the ongoing spat between Blake Lively and her It Ends With Us director Justin Baldoni. The actress slammed Justin with allegations of sexual harassment, routinely degrading her and making inappropriate comments about her appearance among other claims. Her legal complaints prompted Justin to file a $400 million lawsuit against Blake, branding her legal action as an attempt to twist the narrative. Their legal back and forths have cast light on the dark happenings within the Hollywood walls.
These days, Joey Fatone is busy making his Broadway debut.
