I’m in the process of fine-tuning my spring shopping list, which includes a statement trench coat (namely, this one), high-quality white T-shirts, colorful sneakers, and a denim button-down to match my favorite jeans. But a new item just shot to the top of my list after seeing it on Amy Adams and Jennifer Lopez.
Recently, both stars wore the one item my closet needs more of: ridiculously wide-leg trousers. The oversized pants are simultaneously chic and comfy, making them a no-brainer for any wardrobe. They’re also incredibly versatile. The style can be dressed up—as Adams and Lopez did with peep-toe pumps and a matching jacket—or used to elevate everyday basics like sneakers and tees; in short, they’re something you’ll reach for again and again.
I already own a pair of the trending trousers, but I think I’ll wear them enough to warrant grabbing at least one more. Below, I found some options for my spring wardrobe, starting at $37.
Spring Pick: Lillusory Wide-Leg Pants, $37; amazon.com
Vince Camuto Wide-Leg Pants, $109; nordstrom.com
Zara Balloon Pants, $50; zara.com
Jennifer Lopez Lookalike: Gap 365 High-Rise Pleated Trousers, $44 (Originally $90); gap.com
DKNY Pintuck Wide-Leg Pants, $99; nordstrom.com
Amy Adams Lookalike: Cos Deconstructed Cotton Barrel-Leg Pants, $120; cos.com
Everlane the Draper Pleated Pants, $128; everlane.com
Maeve the Avery Pleated Wide-Leg Trousers, $148; anthropologie.com
Comfy-Chic: Lululemon Daydrift High-Rise Trousers, $128; lululemon.com
Abercrombie & Fitch Sloane Low-Rise Tailored Wide-Leg Pants, $90; abercrombie.com
GAP
$90 $44 at Gap
I’m obsessed with Lopez’s stone-brown trousers, and this $44 pair from Gap gets me pretty close to her look. But beyond being a great affordable lookalike, I love that these high-waisted pants find the perfect balance of polished and comfy. The bottoms feature outfit-elevating pleats and an elastic back waistband.
Amazon
$37 at Amazon
I already own a pair of pink wide-leg trousers from Ganni, but I think you need the spring-ready style, too. My exact pair is nearly sold out, but I managed to find an affordable lookalike on Amazon. This dusty rose color is so stunning for spring and looks great with a simple white T-shirt, classic khaki trench coat, and sneakers. But if you’re not into pink, you can also snag these stretchy pants in 15 other colors.
Nordstrom
$99 at Nordstrom
This pair from DKNY stuck out to me while searching for wide-leg trousers. Unlike so many pants on this list, this style doesn’t have a front button, belt loops, or casual-cool vibe; instead, the pintuck pair has a more elegant look with a hook-and-bar closure. Though, that roomy, perfectly draped leg still offers ample comfort.
COS
$120 at Cos.com
Adams’s curved-out pants inspired me to look for a barrel-leg style, and I fell in love with this pair from Cos. The 100-percent cotton pants have a super voluminous leg with that same bow frame, which makes any outfit—yes, even just a white T-shirt—more interesting. These lean a little more casual than the other styles on this list, but all you need to dress them up is a pair of pumps.
If roomy pants aren’t already on your spring radar, I’d recommend adding them now. The cool-girl style looks chic while being actually comfortable. Below, shop even more of the styles on my wishlist.
