A JetBlue passenger was praised for trying to “protect” the aircraft with holy water after an uptick in plane crashes in the US and Canada.
TikToker Desiree Salter went viral this February after posting herself rubbing holy water on the exterior of a plane. The video, which garnered over 5M views, showed Salter drawing a cross on the aircraft before takeoff.
“In Jesus’ name, we pray…Amen!” she captioned her TikTok. Salter was flying JetBlue at the time. While the airline hasn’t had recent issues with their flights, over several months, there has been a rise in crashes both mid-flight and upon landing.
On February 17, a Delta flight flipped as it landed in Toronto, Canada. Though everyone survived, there were at least 21 injuries. The 76 passengers were also offered a $30K “no strings attached” payout.
Two days later, two passengers died during a mid-air collision between two small planes in southern Arizona.
Notably, on January 29, every passenger on an American Airlines flight died when it collided with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter, which also resulted in the death of the helicopter’s operators. The accident occurred moments before the airplane was about to land at the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
Two days after the American Airlines crash, seven people died when an air ambulance crashed into a residential neighborhood in Philadelphia.
And, even more aviation crashes have happened, with one in Scottsdale, Arizona, and another in Alaska. Both accidents occurred in February.
Viewers praise TikToker for protecting the plane with holy water
Those who agreed with Salter’s religious views praised her for blessing the plane before launch, applauding her for doing what she thought would put passengers at ease.
“No seriously, I don’t blame you. We shall continue to live and not die!” one viewer commented on her TikTok video.
