Jets' Quinnen Williams Reveals How Aaron Glenn Will Turn Team Around
The superstar defensive
It's been more of the same for the New York Jets no matter who is at the coaching helm, taking snaps under center or making calls up above, but new hire Aaron Glenn has instilled optimism around the organization in his first week.
Star defensive end Quinnen Williams spoke in Miami at the 2025 Pro Bowl about how Glenn's impact and standard was contagious with the Detroit Lions despite the adversity they faced with injuries this season.
"I've always been keeping up with him, man. Even the great things he did at Detroit with that defense," Williams said to The Big Lead. "You know the struggles they had with the injuries, but still had them guys going. You could tell he instilled some type of culture in that team, some type of standard in that team where you have multiple guys getting injured and coming in and free agents coming in and all playing on that same standard. Always playing on that same mindset.
"I'm waiting on him to bring that sucker to us, man. that standard, that culture, that mindset. Anything that I can do that he can teach me and instill in me to get that locker room going, to get the coaches going, to get the standard going, I'm willing to do."

Glenn's defensive philosophy will contrast sharply with the 2024 strategy under both Robert Saleh and Jeff Ulbrich. Rather than relying on a four-man rush and zone coverage, he favors an aggressive, blitz-heavy scheme with man-to-man matchups.

ORCHARD PARK, NEW YORK - DECEMBER 29: Quinnen Williams #95 of the New York Jets looks to the stands after a game against the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium on December 29, 2024 in Orchard Park, New York. The Bills defeated the Jets 40-14.
"I mean honestly, man, he's a great defensively minded coach. I'm willing to do anything he asks me to do... I'm that type of player, man," Williams said in reference to Glenn deploying his defensive tackles into coverage. "I don't want to be in coverage too much. I want to rush the quarterback, I want to out the quarterback down. That's the thing, me with my feet in the ground going into the quarterback is the best thing."
Williams finished the campaign with 37 total tackles and six sacks to earn his way into his third consecutive Pro Bowl honor despite another underachieving Jets season that resulted in a 5-12 record and a 14th straight year missing the playoffs.
"It means a lot, man. It means a lot. Just for the personal accolades, the recognition I get. Even though we're struggling as a team and going in the right direction a team, the personal accolades is amazing for the hard work I put in."
The 27-year-old 2019 first-round pick from Alabama emerged as a franchise player expeditiously, earning First-Team All-Pro honors in 2022. But he's looking to shepherd the team into greener pastures as Williams prepares for the team's third coaching regime since his rookie season.
"It's just my urge to get things turned around. I'm a true Jets fan at heart now. I want to see this thing turned around. I want this organization to go in the right direction," Williams said.
"I want to be a part of the build to get this thing turned around, and I live and breath every single day at work and at the offseason to help get this thing turned around. I want to be a part of that staff, that player, that person to take this team in the right direction for not just while I'm playing, but years after I'm playing and just create a culture and a standard to let people know that when you play the Jets you're gonna be playing a tough team every single year."
