Joe Wicks has revealed fans won't be seeing him on the likes of Strictly Come Dancing having turned down multiple offers from various TV shows over the years
Joe Wicks has revealed why fans won't see him on Strictly Come Dancing.
The fitness expert became a household name during the coronavirus lockdown period, inspiring millions with his home workouts as the nation were forced to isolate. But since then, the 39-year-old has gone on to grow his online presence and even bagged his own show, The Body Coach.
With almost five million followers on Instagram and 2.8million YouTube subscribers, the Epsom-born presenter is a top name for talent booking agents on TV shows – but he continues to reject offers. In an exclusive interview with the Mirror, Joe revealed why he's not been keen to take part in shows such as Strictly and ITV's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!
"Every year, there's a rumour that I'm going to be on Strictly," he said. He went on to add: "I don't know who plants it but it's definitely not true. The truth is, I don't like being away from my family." Ahead of our chat, Joe spent just one night away from his family in Margate due to taking part in a roller disco with supermarket giant, ASDA.

Although he joked life at home with his four children can be chaotic, he doesn't like being away from them for too long
"I was in a hotel for a night, I don't like being away for that long," he commented. Speaking of offers from I'm A Celeb, which he has also turned down, Joe revealed: "I just can't imagine going to Australia for three weeks, or even a week – it's a long time. For me, I like to do everything with my kids. It's not something I'm drawn to. You never know, in ten, 15 years, I just don't know what's going to happen But there's no reality shows."
Although Joe has amassed a huge following, he admits that people may not want to see him on their screens each week or every day. "When you're on social media, you're putting yourself out there, people choose to follow you. But when you get on TV, some people feel like they don't want to see you on TV, they just think you get thrust into their lives, that's when the mean comments come out."
Away from work, Joe and his wife Rosie juggle their careers as well as being parents to four children. "It's hard now I've got four kids," he laughed. Joe went on to say: "I'm with them all the time, and me and my wife are trying to educate them and, you know, be calm and give them everything they want and also give them an outdoorsy life, we're trying to get them in the garden and getting them out.

"Yeah, it's tough but I think it's just having those days where you're not going about the house all the time, but it's finding your moment just to like be active. I think when you get away from the screens and devices and you really activate yourself almost, it's just good for everybody.
"It's a constant battle isn't because some days go smoother, other days are difficult or one of the kids will get colder and it Rosie won't be feeling good and so you just got stuff is teamwork. You know parenting is teamwork and kids are that can be very challenging. So you just got to stay calm."
Being a dad was part of the reason Joe decided to team up with Asda's Rollback campaign. The supermarket giant are slashing the prices on dozens of products that people buy on a weekly basis, with over 4,000 products reduced by an average of 25%. He said: "It's very much linked to my my mission, which is trying to get people in the kitchen inspired to cook again because a lot of people are struggling with it. And also just to put good food on the table for them, when they do that, it's so beneficial to their mental health, their mood, their energy.
"This is this is a partnership really about that. Can we take that mission and that message to customers in reality, you know, cheaper shopping, you might see the advert of me on the treadmill – the Rollback advert, we're bringing the roll back and making Asda the place to go for a family shop on a budget."
"It's good to be a part of it and hopefully have an impact on families, one thing is the pressure and stress but when you're worried about putting food on the table and actually eating healthy, it must be really difficult. I'll always be pushing to promote that and do that through recipes to nudge people in the right direction to actually think you can eat healthily and it doesn't cost the world."
Joe admits that food time in his family home can be "chaotic" and understands that "connivence" wins when it comes to plating up healthy dinners – but he stressed that people can make convenient food, healthily, including batch cooking things such as a bolognese, or a slow cooked curry which can "sit in the fridge for two or three days" to allow healthy food. Other examples Joe believes would be beneficial include sweet potatoes, beef meatballs and chicken breasts which can all be used in healthy and low-cost meals.
