John Cena and Cody Rhodes faced off for an explosive meeting in the ring during Monday’s episode of WWE RAW, with Cena also addressing his longstanding history as someone who “buries” talent.
In the ring on WWE RAW (which took place earlier today from London, England), Cena and Rhodes finally went toe-to-toe on the microphone just like fans wanted. While some wanted Cena to mock Rhodes, he took a different route, however, and directly referenced the criticisms fans have had of him for years, including the fact that he “buries” talent.
In the scathing promo, Cena said he doesn’t bury talent, but buries mediocrity, and is the talent himself. “I’m not gonna cook you, I’m gonna bury you — They’ve been saying for years John Cena buries talent, I don’t bury talent, I bury mediocrity, I AM talent,” said Cena in full.
Cena referred to himself as the last real WWE Champion, and said that Rhodes was nothing but an “errand boy that got lucky” and gamed his way to the top. Rhodes fired back by saying that Cena was nothing but propped up by someone they “couldn’t talk about,” a reference to Vince McMahon.
The back-and-forth ended with Rhodes telling Cena that, at the end of the day, the fans only have chanted that one of them couldn’t wrestle. This got under Cena’s skin, who attempted to attack Rhodes only to be met with a Cross Rhodes.
