Jon Gosselin opened up about his relationship with his ex-wife, Kate Gosselin, including the last time he actually spoke to her.
The former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star, 47, revealed that he and Kate, 49, “don’t communicate,” during an interview with E! News published on Friday, January 31.
“I think the last time I heard her voice in person was, like, 2018,” Jon told the outlet.
Kate and Jon married in 1998, but they became a household name when they became the stars of the TLC reality series Jon & Kate Plus 8 in 2007. The series gave viewers an inside look at the former couple’s life as they juggled being parents to twins, Maddy and Cara, and sextuplets Hannah, Alexis, Aeden, Collin, Leah and Joel.
Unfortunately, two years after the show premiered, Jon and Kate announced they were separating and what followed was a bitter custody battle between them. A judge granted them joint physical custody, but Kate was granted full legal custody of all eight children. However, Jon later claimed that he was not able to see the children due to Kate’s strict rules.
“Their chores even supersede my custody,” Jon told Entertainment Tonight in 2016. “So if they don’t get their chores done, they’re not coming to my house.”
Most of their children opted to stay with Kate, but in 2016, she made the decision to send Collin to live at a treatment facility for behavioral issues. However, Jon claimed he wasn’t made aware of her decision due to her having custody of the children and he had no idea where Collin was living.
Jon was eventually awarded custody of Collin in 2018 and he came home from the facility to live with his dad. Six years later, Collin claimed that Kate had locked him in the basement and zip-tied his hands and feet as a child.

“My mother had a room built in our unfinished section of the storage basement,” Collin claimed in an interview with The U.S. Sun published on September 8, 2024. “She had a room put up with cameras in it, a tiny window in the corner and it was bolt-locked from the outside. When my mother would put me in that room multiple times, she had zip-tied my hands and feet together and bolt-locked the door, turned the lights off and had cameras there just watching me.”

Jon, who spoke to the outlet as well, alleged that the “room in the basement where she kept Collin is still there.”
Kate never publicly responded to the claims, but her attorney, Richard Puleo, told The U.S. Sun that she never “intentionally” harmed Collin and she “did what she did to protect herself and her family” from her son’s “troubled behavior.”
Two days later, Collin shared a message to his father via Instagram and thanked him for fighting to gain custody of him.
“It has taken a long time to find the strength needed to speak about my mother’s abuse. I have finally found my voice, and I hope to be the voice for children everywhere facing abuse. It is never OK. Your story can be told, just like mine. As well,I wish to bring attention to the system that failed me as a child, and hopefully, in turn, it will help others,” Collin wrote in a message on September 10, 2024. “Seeing pictures of my younger self is still incredibly difficult, but today I feel a small sense of justice by speaking it. I’d like to thank my father for fighting so hard to obtain custody of me, and saving me from the institution where I was wrongfully committed.”
