Jon Richardson announces new 'normal' job after quitting comedy
Jon Richardson has announced that he is quitting comedy after more than a decade in the industry
Jon Richardson has taken his fans by surprise with a major announcement that he's leaving the comedy scene to embark on an entirely new career.
Known for his years of performing stand-up and numerous television appearances, he is now opting for a more conventional day-to-day life. The 42-year-old Celebrity Gogglebox participant took to Instagram today to convey his decision, posting a video of himself wrapped against the cold, walking, and talking directly into the camera.
He informed his followers: "I just thought I'd give you a little update. I don't really do social media updates, and I'll tell you why - because I don't think anyone cares.
"But I have a little bit of news. I've obviously been taking a little bit of a break from stand-up and it's really made me... want to carry on taking a break from stand-up."
Continuing, he reflected on his past aspirations, saying: "I've been thinking a lot about a diary entry that I found from 1997." Jon then showcased the diary entry on screen, adding: "It's this one. I was 14 years old, it says although I would love to be a stand-up comedian, I'll probably end up being a teacher. And I've been thinking a lot about that."

In an unexpected twist, he disclosed: "I've loved being a comedian, it was absolutely the right choice. But I've decided it would've been nice to try the other option, so that's exactly what I'm gonna do," reports the Mirror.
He then unexpectedly revealed his new career move, saying: "I've been doing some training, I've taken a teaching position. I will update you as and when I can. but that's all from me for now, just to let you know where I've been. I'll keep you posted."

Jon's life has seen another significant change following the announcement of his divorce from wife Lucy Beaumont last April. The couple, who married in April 2015, have an eight year old daughter named Elsie.
The split came as a surprise to their fans, especially since John and Lucy had become quite the celebrity duo after featuring in their own series, Meet The Richardsons, which debuted in 2020.

At the time of their separation, they released a joint statement: "We have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go our separate ways.
"As our only priority is managing this difficult transition for our daughter, we would ask that our privacy is respected at this sensitive time to protect her well-being. We will be making no further comment. Jon Richardson and Lucy Beaumont."
It seems the pair have finalised their divorce arrangements, with Jon providing Lucy with a £1.625 million settlement for her stake in a business where they were both directors. The former couple had amassed a shared fortune of £6 million before their personal and professional relationship concluded.
Jon is currently still on Channel 4's 8 out 10 Cats Does Countdown which can also be streamed via My4.
