Jon Stewart was left with a bloody hand after he smashed a coffee mug during an impassioned monologue on The Daily Show.
During the Feb. 24 episode, the television host, 62, injured his hand after getting angry while discussing the Department of Government Efficiency’s budget cuts and the high price of prescription drugs.
“The companies we subsidize with billions of dollars are allowing us the privilege to negotiate the price of 10 of their drugs,” Stewart said. “And 10 is all of them, right? It would be embarrassing if it was a small drop in the bucket, and that the American people didn’t expect that we should negotiate for all their f—ing drugs, because we have already paid for them with our subsidies!”
“It is f—ing insane!” he shouted before smashing the mug on the desk and shattering it. “Come on!”
Stewart then put his hand underneath the desk and quipped, “I’ll be going to the hospital soon.”

After continuing his monologue, Stewart lifted his hand back above the desk a few minutes later and revealed that it was covered in blood. The audience audibly gasped in unison before he said, “It’s fine!” with a laugh.
Stewart has not yet commented on the severity of the cut on his hand.
However, the show’s official social media page hinted at the host injuring himself in a post on its Instagram Stories: “TONIGHT: Jon Stewart takes on DOGE and makes some ‘cuts’ of his own. He’s fine. We hope.”
Stewart also commented on the incident on X, formerly Twitter.
“We’re back! New Daily Show tonight!” he wrote. “It’s a bloody good episode…emphasis on bloody…I’m an idiot…”
