Jonathan Lipnicki Reveals Real Reason He Didn’t Act as Much in 2000s - E! Online
Stuart Little alum Jonathan Lipnicki exclusively told E! News that his late 2000s hiatus from Hollywood was partially due to a shift in focus toward school, but also because he wasn’t booking work.
Watch : Jonathan Lipnicki Addresses Misconception He Stepped Away From Acting (Exclusive)
Jonathan Lipnicki is setting the record straight.
The former child star—who rose to fame in Stuart Little and Jerry Maguire in the ‘90s—recently clarified that, although he wasn’t acting much in the late 2000s, he never “stepped away” from his Hollywood career.
“Really, it was kind of just going to high school,” he exclusively told E! News’ Francesca Amiker. “I wasn't, like, ‘I'm stepping away.’ I still had my agent, I'd audition here and there.”
The 34-year-old said he shifted his focus during that time, adding, “I played water polo in high school. I went to prom, I did all the normal stuff. I played youth league sports. So, yeah, [acting] wasn't the only fixture in my life.”
And while Jonathan shared he has “really great parents that were there to guide” him through his public school experience, he admitted that his schooling wasn’t the only reason for his absence from the spotlight.

Stars Who Quit Hollywood
“I auditioned for a lot and I just didn't get things,” he continued. “I think that's OK to say, right? Acting is this thing that I've always loved, and sometimes it just doesn't love you back. And there was a span where I didn't work for a while and I was pursuing it.”
But Jonathan—who next plays a fictionalized, over-the-top version of himself on The Joe Schmo Show, a faux reality competition show hosted by Cat Deeley premiering Jan. 21 on TBS—took his hardship in stride and used his experience to better his craft.

“What I can control is I wasn't very good at acting and I had to go to acting class,” he explained. “I think I lost track of who I was. You got to be in tune with who you are to act, and there was just a portion where maybe I just wasn't very good, and I'm OK saying that. Maybe it's a me thing, and I'm more than willing to work on myself all the time and take accountability and control for what I can control.”
Though his Hollywood journey hasn’t been the easiest path, Jonathan is grateful for the early start to his career.
“I got to find out from a young age what I wanted to spend the rest of my life pursuing, so I can never be mad at it,” he said. “I'm always grateful for it. I am living more in the present now and really trying to focus on who I am now and what that's going to look like in the future. But I'm extremely grateful for my past.”
