Jurassic World 4âs New Island Twist Gives Rebirth A Major Advantage Over The Last Reboot
Jurassic World Rebirth ups the reboot ante.
Jurassic World Rebirth is set on a new, dinosaur-infested island, and this setting ups the ante over the previous Jurassic reboot. Directed by Gareth Edwards and written by David Keopp, Jurassic World Rebirth premieres on July 2, 2025. Set five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, Jurassic World Rebirth stars Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett, the leader of an expedition to retrieve DNA from the most dangerous dinosaurs bred for Jurassic Park for world-saving medical applications.
In 2015, director Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World rebooted Steven Spielberg's 1993 classic, Jurassic Park. Trevorrow's story saw the dinosaur theme park John Hammond (Richard Attenborogh) dreamt of actually open and welcoming thousands of guests. Inevitably, the dinos got loose and rampaged through the park. In the Jurassic World sequels, Isla Nublar was destroyed by volcanic eruption, and the dinosaurs proliferated throughout the world. But Jurassic World 2015's billion-dollar success was due to Trevorrow's reboot delivering on the promise of dinosaurs running amok in a populated theme park.
Scarlett Johansson's Jurassic Is Going Straight For Dino Scares
Although a recreation of Jurassic Park's guest center and its iconic "When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth" banner appear in the new trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth, the newest Jurassic movie makes it clear that there will be no recreating dinosaurs in a theme park. Instead, Zora Bennett leads a mission to a new island that was once the research center for Jurassic Park. Zora and her operative Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali) guide paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey) and pharmaceutical rep Martin Krebs (Rupert Friend) into this domain to collect samples from the dinos deemed too deadly for Jurassic Park.
RelatedEvery Dinosaur In Jurassic World Rebirth Explained
Jurassic World Rebirth includes a wide range of dinosaurs with some returning after past appearances and others making their franchise debuts.
Jurassic World Rebirth's premise eschews the problematic aspects of Jurassic World 2015's reboot, like annoying kids and their eye-rolling family drama. Instead, Jurassic World Rebirth looks to upgrade the scare-inducing premise of The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III by pitting capable adults in death-defying attempts to survive face-to-face encounters with carnivorous dinosaurs. There's also an undercurrent of humanitarianism that's pleasing, since Jurassic World Rebirth's humans are trying to enable a medical miracle by gathering dino DNA.
This New Island Isn't Isla Nublar Or Isla Sorna
Jurassic World Rebirth returning to a forbidden island setting is promising, and the newest Jurassic adventure creates a new location: a heretofore unnamed island that isn't the previous Jurassic movies' Isla Nublar or Isla Sorna, which were near Costa Rica. Jurassic World Rebirth's new island is near Barbados, further east in the Caribbean. It was also a research facility for the original Jurassic Park that houses "the worst of the worst" dinos, including another T-Rex, several Spinosaurus, and a Mosasaurus swimming in the surrounding seas.
Jurassic World Rebirth will adapt a river raft chase by a T-Rex that was in Michael Crichton's original novel but was cut out of Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park.
Heavily armed humans invading a dinosaur-filled island and falling prey to the cloned prehistoric creatures is old hat to the Jurassic franchise. In a post-Jurassic World Dominion reality, dinosaurs have become an everyday sight for many people across the planet. But on their own island they've populated since Jurassic Park 30+ years ago, the dinosaurs have home field advantage in Jurassic World Rebirth.
