It’s often said that one downside of streaming is the lack of sizeable album artwork — and a side-effect of that is the lack of full credits. It’s crazy, but there is no official source for full album credits. Sure, you can find songwriter and producer credits on Spotify if you dig for them; Tidal has nearly full credits but you must be a Tidal subscriber; other sources, like Genius.com and Wikipedia, are usually accurate but not always.
Consequently, rumors fly — like the ones that say Kanye West produced a song featuring Kendrick Lamar on Playboi Carti’s blockbuster new album “Music” (yes, the title is just “Music,” even though the artwork reads “I Am Music”). A rep for Carti confirms to Variety that West did not produce the song, even though it features a sped-up sample similar to songs from his 2004 debut “College Dropout.”
Likewise, SZA is not featured anywhere on the album — that’s actually Jhene Aiko, the rep confirms.
Popular on VarietyFull credits for “Music” are not yet available — so many last-minute tweaks were being made to the 76-minute, 30-track album that it missed the traditional midnight ET release time and did not arrive on streaming services until around 7:30 am ET, which, funny enough, also has happened in recent years with albums by SZA and West.
However, the album does feature guest appearances from Kendrick Lamar and Travis Scott (on three songs each), as well as Aiko, the Weeknd, Skepta, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, Ty Dolla Sign and Young Thug.
