Kanye West received backlash over the weekend after he listed a swastika T-shirt on his Yeezy website for $20. However, the site has since been taken down due to violating terms and conditions. Instead of viewing the item and proceeding to the Shopify checkout, visitors now receive messages that read âsomething went wrongâ and âthis store is unavailable.â
In a statement about the website going offline, Shopify told Variety, âAll merchants are responsible for following the rules of our platform. This merchant did not engage in authentic commerce practices and violated our terms, so we removed them from Shopify.â
West spent a large chunk of money on an advert during the Super Bowl on February 19th, telling people to visit his website. Within an hour of the commercial airing to Los Angeles viewers, the website had been changed from its usual stock to solely a shirt with a swastika on the front.
âSo, whatâs up, guys? I spent, like, all the money for the commercial on these new teeth,â he said in the advert. âSo, once again, I had to shoot it on the iPhone. Um⊠um⊠um⊠go to yeezy.com.â The clip found Ye sitting in what appeared to be a dentistâs chair.
Speaking on the situation, an insider told Variety, âIt was such a small ad, I donât think anyone put two and two together. The copy was clean, the website was clean, and so they did their due diligence with that little part of it.â
Ye made the shirt available after showing support for Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party in a flurry of posts on X (formerly known as Twitter) last week. âI love Hitler. Now what, bitches? Iâm a Nazi,â he wrote. âI say whatever the fuck I want, p*ssies.â
Before deactivating his account, he also claimed that he wouldnât go back on his antisemitic views. âIâm never apologising for my Jewish comments,â he said, among many other hurtful words. âI can say whatever the fuck I wanna say forever. Whereâs my fucking apology for freezing my accounts? Suck my dick. Howâs that for an apology?â
