Kim Kardashian has revealed she had to hand over an engagement ring back to her ex â despite paying for most of it.
The 44 year old reality TV star, who was married to former NBA player Kris Humphries for a mere 72 days before they split in October 2011, disclosed that she had to relinquish the 18-carat emerald cut diamond ring as part of their divorce settlement two years later. Kim and Kris tired the knot in a huge ceremony with many claiming it was a publicity stunt due to the short duration of their marriage. However, their estrangement lasted almost two years.
In the most recent episode of her family Disney+ show, The Kardashians, Kim and her sister, KhloeĂÂ Kardashian had travelled to India, for the marriage of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant, where she opened up about her marriage. Speaking on the show, she said: "I didn't keep that. I was pregnant with North, still married to him, and in order to divorce him, he said I had to give him the ring."
However, Kim maintained that she paid for most of the ring, with Kris only contributing a fifth of the cost. Following their divorce, Kris sold the ring at auction for a staggering $749,000. In 2013, his representative told E! News: "The ring is indeed Kris' property that he received through his marriage dissolution." The spokesperson added that the funds would go to an undetermined charity.

The rep also stated that Kris was "very pleased with the final result" of the sale. Speaking about her previous engagement rings, Kim commented: "Number one was a cushion cut, 14-carat, I still have it," of her ring from Damon Thomas in 2000. Her second ring, she bought from family jeweller, Lorraine Schwartz, which was an 18 carat emerald cut diamond. She later commented that she would have liked to have kept the ring from Kris to add it to "a collection."
Elsewhere in the episode, Kim recounted how a warning from Kanye West saved another engagement ring from being stolen during her 2016 Paris robbery. Kanye initially proposed in 2013 with a 15-carat ring, before upgrading it to a 20-carat piece three years later. Kim, who shares children North, 11, Saint, nine, Chicago, seven, and Psalm, five, with Kanye, wore both rings at Madison Square Garden and flaunted them on Instagram.
She recalled: "Kanye saw it and he goes, 'Don't you ever wear both of your rings at the same time. Are you looking to get robbed?'". On her fateful trip to Paris, she recounted a harrowing experience, revealing that she "left my original ring that I got proposed to, which was like the most important one" safely at home, while her newer 20-carat sparklerâÂÂvalued at a staggering $4 millionâÂÂwas stolen from her hotel room in what turned out to be a notorious robbery.
Kim has since shared her intentions for the future of her original engagement ring, expressing a desire to pass it on to her daughter North, who is now 11-years-old. She feels a profound sense of connection between the ring and her eldest child.
Elaborating on this sentimental decision, she said: "That one, I'm gonna give to Northy, because she was with me when I got engaged and she held it after and I took a photo and she was just, like, a few months old."
