On March 16, the YouTube channel Garo Sero Research Institute (Garo Sero) reported the latest remarks from the bereaved family of the late actress Kim Sae-ron. This development followed Garo Sero’s prior disclosure of text messages exchanged between Gold Medalist, Kim Sae-ron’s former agency, and her father. The messages revealed Gold Medalist’s repeated attempts to reach out to Kim Sae-ron’s father, seemingly in an effort to communicate directly regarding the situation. In one of the messages, the agency stated, “Please give us the opportunity to visit you in person and explain everything that has happened.”
Despite these attempts at contact, the bereaved family later released an additional statement through Garo Sero, expressing their skepticism and frustration over Gold Medalist’s official stance. They made it clear that, rather than addressing the core issues at hand with sincerity, the agency’s statement appeared to be strategically crafted from a legal perspective.
“We read and reread Gold Medalist’s statement. It felt as though it had been drafted with the mindset of a legal team accustomed to political circles, focused on whether evidence is admissible and how to argue their case rather than on the truth itself. Do not attempt to justify your actions by suddenly bringing up the crime of breach of trust out of nowhere.”
The family went on to provide further clarification, stating that Gold Medalist had never informed Kim Sae-ron in advance that the legal notice she received was merely a procedural step related to an alleged breach of trust. They described how Kim Sae-ron, upon receiving the official document, made continuous efforts to reach out to her former agency’s representatives, only to be met with silence.
“Gold Medalist never once told Sae-ron not to be alarmed because the notice of certification was merely a company procedure related to an alleged breach of trust. When Sae-ron received the document, she personally called each and every company representative, but no one answered her calls or provided her with a response. She kept trying to confirm whether this was Kim Soo-hyun’s decision or the company’s.”

Meanwhile, the bereaved family has also taken legal steps to address what they believe to be defamatory claims circulating in the media. On March 17, Kim Sae-ron’s newly appointed legal representative, attorney Bu Ji-seok from the law firm Buyu, will hold a press briefing at 2 PM (local time) at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. Speaking to SPOTV News, Attorney Bu emphasized the significance of this moment, stating, “This marks the first time the bereaved family has officially appointed a legal representative. We will explain the reasons behind the family’s decision, including why they felt compelled to file a criminal complaint against YouTuber Lee Jin-ho.”
Later that same day, the bereaved family is expected to formally submit a criminal complaint against journalist-turned-YouTuber Lee Jin-ho, alleging that he committed defamation by spreading false information about Kim Sae-ron. Lee had previously uploaded multiple videos discussing the actress, but following her passing, he swiftly changed all related content to private. The controversy surrounding his past remarks recently resurfaced, prompting Lee to release a response video in which he attempted to clarify his stance. He stated, “When Kim Sae-ron uploaded a photo of Kim Soo-hyun, I never claimed that it was fake or manipulated.”
