Kingdom Come Deliverance 2: release time and platforms revealed
Explore the 15th-century civil war backdrop with Kingdom Come Deliverance 2's release date and gameplay updates
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) is set to deliver another bloody slice of medieval RPG action when it hits consoles and PC on Tuesday (February 4)
Henry, the protagonist from the first game, a blacksmith’s son who is yours to mould as you see fit, is back in this open-world tale of revenge set amid the backdrop of a 15th-century civil war.
So, grab your longsword and goblet of mead, and get ready to explore the sprawling kingdom of Bohemia.
Here’s what you need to know about KCD2, including when you’ll be able to play it and how its gameplay has evolved.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 release time
KDC2 will release globally on Tuesday, February 4 at 4pm GMT (8am PT / 11am ET).
The good news is that these launch times will apply to all platforms, including PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store).
Developer Warhorse Studios recently brought KCD2’s release date forward by a week. At the time, the move felt like it was intended to give the game some breathing room in a packed February, which previously included Assassin's Creed Shadows (though Ubisoft has since delayed that game to March) and fellow RPG Avowed.
Pre-orders for the game went live in November, and a PS5 Pro-enhanced version is also on the cards.
Is Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 on Game Pass?
Alas, the game will not be available on Game Pass at launch, though that could change in the future. After all, the first Kingdom Come: Deliverance was previously available on Xbox’s gaming service in 2019, before later being removed.
Still, as of now, there are no confirmed plans to bring KCD2 to Game Pass. That means anyone who wants to play it will have to buy the game outright (you can find more info on the various editions and their prices further below).
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 gameplay
KCD2 is a more grounded and realistic RPG than the fantasy fare the genre is typically associated with. Think epic sandbox hijinks in the vein of Skyrim (minus the dragons), with the kind of brutal swordplay you’d find in the Chivalry games, plus a sprinkling of survival mechanics, and you’re almost there.
Caked in grit and grime, it looks like the kind of esoteric, rough-around-the-edges game you’d expect to play on PC instead of consoles.
Based on how you approach open-world games, you’ll either stick to the main story or roam around talking to every NPC you can find, from drifters to peasants to dukes, completing side quests as you go. When you’re not laying siege to castles, you can indulge in dice games, pet your dog, or bond with your horse, Pebbles.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 story, combat and crime
This time around, Henry is seeking the miscreants who murdered his parents, a treacherous campaign that pits him against the King of Hungary.
Your goal may be noble, but how you achieve it doesn’t have to be. You can commit crimes like pickpocketing and stealing using stealth tactics to avoid getting caught. If you are spotted, you can plead or bribe your way out of tight spots. Get it wrong, and you’ll wind up with a wanted level which could land you in jail or, even worse, on the gallows (eek).
Returning players should feel right at home, thanks to familiar features like alchemy and the parry-and-strike combat system, both of which have been polished up.
When you inevitably find yourself in a swordfight, for instance, you’ll have to attack from the opposite direction of your opponent’s charge to land an unblockable blow (or Master Strike). And, be sure to stick only the freshest ingredients in your potions for maximum potency - as herbs and flowers can go off just like food in the first game.
