On the evening of February 4, Allkpop reported that Kwon Sang Woo (Stairway to Heaven) appeared on a talk show aired on the YouTube channel “Kwangjae Sister”, where he shared his habit of eating liver and beef intestines. He recalled, “When I was filming ‘Big Thing’ (2010), there were many high-end beef restaurants around the set. They often served liver and beef intestines. I really enjoyed these dishes and ate a lot of them during that time.”
The 1976-born actor revealed that after consuming large amounts of liver and beef intestines in a short period, he underwent a full-body health checkup at a hospital. At the hospital, he was shocked to see that his lung scan was completely white. At that moment, he thought to himself, “Am I dying?” The doctor quickly reassured him, explaining that he had a parasitic infection, which could resolve on its own. After returning from the hospital, Kwon Sang Woo decided to avoid eating liver and beef intestines for many years. Additionally, he took medication to eliminate the parasites from his body.
Earlier, on January 20, Kwon Sang Woo appeared as a guest on the YouTube channel “Zzanbro Shin Dong Yup” and shared a surprising story about undergoing surgery to remove a piece of his liver the size of a palm. He said, “I discovered that I had a hemangioma in my liver during a routine health check. The doctor showed me the scan and informed me that they had decided to remove a portion of my liver, which was about the size of a palm.”
Kwon Sang Woo recalled feeling extremely lonely during the surgery as his wife and children were not by his side. He confessed, “I was filming in Korea, while my family was living in the US. So, I decided not to make a big deal out of it and underwent the surgery alone before starting filming for ‘Hitman 2’. I was hospitalized for quite some time, but since my wife and children were overseas, I felt really lonely. The doctor also noted that my liver was abnormally large. Even after removing 30% of it, my liver was still the size of a normal person’s liver. I started filming ‘Hitman 2’ after fully recovering.”
Currently, Kwon Sang Woo’s wife Son Tae Young and their children reside in the United States, while he continues working in Korea and visits them whenever he has free time.
