Laura Whitmore shares heartbreaking last texts from Caroline Flack before death
The former Love Island host, who took over presenting duties from Caroline, shared their final conversation
Laura Whitmore has shared the final text messages between herself and Caroline Flack on the anniversary of her tragic death.
The former Love Island host took to Instagram on Saturday (February 15) to share a heartfelt post dedicated to her friend, who died on 15 February, 2020.
Laura, who took over hosting the ITV2 dating show from Caroline in 2020, chose to share the messages to mark the fifth anniversary of Caroline's death.
Caroline sadly took her own life aged 40 shortly after she learnt her criminal trial for allegedly assaulting her then-boyfriend, Lewis Burton, was going ahead.
The TV host stepped down from presenting Love Island in December 2019, with Laura then announced as her replacement for the first winter series. Caroline had publicly shown that she was in full support of Laura replacing her.

Now, Laura, 39, who also stepped down as host from Love Island in 22 and was replaced by Maya Jama, has revealed her last conversation with Caroline where they discussed her role.
Sharing screenshots of the messages with her 1.4 million followers, Laura wrote: "I got a new phone this month and as I was trying to download WhatsApp messages from my cloud loads of old messages came up. Ones I thought I lost a few years ago and no longer had. It really hit me hard.
"Looking at messages Iâve never publicly shared as they were private messages. Media outlets wrote a lot far from the actual truth. I think they show a side to Caroline which is nice to remember. Hence Iâm sharing now.
"She wasnât perfect and I didnât know her as well as others but I knew she had her demons. I met Caroline in 2011 when I took over from her hosting Iâm a celebrity get me out of here now. She was as supportive of me doing that role back then as she was when she supported me doing Love Island in 2020.
"Both were great shows with hundreds of people working on them and relying on the show going ahead. I will always be so thankful of the last messages between me and Caroline. I never asked her about the court case - it wasnât my business. I didnât know her partner at the time and still donât. Every time Iâve been asked to speak about the situation or be part of a documentary I decline."
Laura added: Iâve already said all I can say on the tragedy and donât want words to be misconstrued and need to look after my own mental health. This was the last correspondence I ever had with her. I really did hope she was somewhere lovely. A spa/ retreat/ rehab.
"I never knew the extent of her struggles or what was to come. The last message from her to me were love hearts. Iâd like to think wherever she is now, sheâs at peace and somewhere lovely like I hoped. Iâm sad when I see the press and social media be so divisive and that we still havenât learned from Carolineâs treatment before her death when it comes to women in the spotlight. Today I choose to remember these messages and thank the cloud for giving them back to me."

The messages showed that on December 18, 2019, Caroline had messaged Laura to say: "Hey xxx About to go see ITV. I hope you are doing the job xx. I wouldn't want it to be anyone else x."
Laura replied: "That's such a lovely message. I have met with them and had a conversation but nothing confirmed so we'll see how it goes."
Another screenshot from Laura then read: "Hey just checking in. I wanted to call but didn't want to disturb you. I've been offered the role for this series and they're going to announce it today. It's been back and forth last few days as you can imagine so I couldn't say anything to anyone until literally now but wanted to tell you first. I'll do my very best to give it the justice it deserves. How are you doing? xx."
Caroline replied with a red love heart emoji and added: "I'm glad it you xxx." To which Laura responded: "That means a lot thank you x." Their final conversation then began with Laura saying: "Thanks so much for that insta message. You've no idea how lovely that is. Hope you're doing ok and we're all thinking of you and missing you."
Caroline replied: "Thanks Laura... feeling a bit better... I really am looking forward to watching the show tho... it's perfect you and Iain doing it together xx." as Laura responded: "I mean I NEVER actually see him ha! Hope you're somewhere lovely and see you soon xx." Caroline then replied with four red love heart emojis.
