Lennon Miller to Rangers transfer question asked as 2.5m deal pitched
The midfielder is attracting interest from across Europe but there are admirers at Ibrox
Puzzled Derek Ferguson admits he can't understand why Rangers have not made an attempt to land Motherwell wonderkid Lennon Miller.
Udinese failed with a £2.5m move for the 18-year-old earlier this month while Bundesliga giants Eintracht Frankfurt are also monitoring his situation. Both Celtic and rivals Rangers have long been admirers of the player who is currently nursing a fractured ankle, while Southampton are also keen. And former Ibrox hero Ferguson floated potential caveats in a deal that could see him leave Fir Park.
Asked on Open Goal if the £2.5m tabled by the Serie A side was too low, he confessed: "Aye, but there are different ways to structure this - with sell-on clauses and with appearances. See if it was £2.5m and then based on how many games he plays that Motherwell get more - sometimes with sell-on clauses he goes and they make the money again.
"Iâve been watching him for a couple of years. His talent is clear to see. Why are (Rangers) not going to get him? It's worked out great that he has progressed."
Former Steelman James McFadden explained that Miller would be looking beyond the two Premiership giants: "Sometimes with young players coming through in Scotland they think 'Celtic or Rangers - that is the pinnacle'. I don't think he's like that.
"I think he is looking for the best place to progress, be successful. For me, Udinese have jumped in and tried to get him before the rest. There will be other offers."
