Let’s be clear. Zelensky is not a dictator. And when an election is held in Ukraine (couldn’t be held in the war as that bullying pig Putin would have ordered the targeting of every polling booth) he, or somebody with similar courage and fortitude, will win with a massive majority as a massive V-sign to that other bullying pig, Trump.
Starmer points out correctly that Churchill didn’t hold an election during the Second World War, but when he did go to the country he was soundly beaten by Atlee. Even if you have given blood never look to an electorate for loyalty.

But what will the peace mean to the UK? And here I have some bad news. I can hear it coming from Starmer as I write.
We live in a dangerous world. Correct. Our military has been under-funded for years. Correct. And therefore to pay for it, I will be putting up taxes once again. Incorrect.
The reality is that Starmer and his Cabinet will not do – and it will never occur to them - what is easiest and slash government spending and then hand the spoils to the military.
He won’t be happy until train drivers are on £500,000-a-year or until the whole country is claiming sickness benefit.
Nor will he consider his life’s work complete until income tax hits 50%. Under Starmer those with the broadest shoulders will have to carry every unhealthy idle Socialist until the end of time.
The way this government wants to deal with the burden of the exploding claims by the long-term sick (there’s 2.5million of them, grown by 4,000,000 SINCE covid) who can, under the taxpayers’ largesse, pocket £5,000-a-year on top of their jobless benefit, is a case study.
The government has woken up to the fact that we can’t afford to keep paying like this as there is no increase in the nation’s productivity (going backwards thanks to WFH) but we do have a dollop of unexpected inflation (caused by VAT on private schools and pay rises for state workers) which means the country is actually getting poorer.
Hey presto Liz Kendall, the work and pensions secretary, has an idea. She had to have one this decade. Under a plan to save £5billion Kendall will require the long-term sick to look for work. I like that idea although her suggestion of regular chats with work coaches or intensive searches for employment will fall flat on its face.
What I don’t like is that any money saved will be ‘’re-invested’’ into expanding back-to-work schemes. The ’’sick’’ trousering the money will be far too smart to go to work for money which is similar to the government sending it to them while they sit on a sofa.
You have to be brutal and simply say if you don’t work you don’t get paid. And if you are unwell your family will have to look after you. We should do a Singapore. It works great there. Everybody gets a home but everything else is for the family to sort out.
That is never going to happen under Starmer. In fact wouldn’t happen under Boris either. He wants to be liked too much that is why I am not in favour of him not being welcomed back with open arms in a couple of years when it becomes clear Kemi is not the answer.
Our nation is no longer rich. That moment has passed. We do need a US-style Doge that looks at every penny the government – and the council- spend. All the savings should go to the military.
It’s clear 2.5% of GDP will not be enough. If we go down the Starmer route our taxes will be 100% to pay for defence as China sees that the response on Ukraine means the US will do nothing about Bejing marching into Taiwan.
As Chairman Mao said power comes out of the muzzle of a gun. Regrettably Starmer perceives power coming out of the power of income tax receipts.
