Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has taken a swipe at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which despite the bandâs nomination to be inducted in the class of 2025, he claims is âfor wankersâ.
The shortlist for possible inductees was revealed on February 12th. Oasis are on the shortlist alongside Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Mariah Carey, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, Manå, OutKast, Phish, Soundgarden, and The White Stripes.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Gallagher shared his views on the prestigious honour, stating: âRNR hall of fame is for WANKERS,â before responding to fans that he would âgo and say itâs the best thing EVERâ if they were to be inducted.
Oasis were also shortlisted for the Hall of Fame last year, which Gallagher took to social media to be critical of, saying: âFuck the Rock n Roll hall of fame its full of BUMBACLARTS LGâ.
Additionally, in an interview with The Sunday Times, he expanded on his stance, saying: âAs much as I love Mariah Carey and all that, I want to say: do me a favour and fuck off,â before adding that he has âdone more for rock ânâ roll than half of them clownsâ.
Formed in Manchester in 1991, the bandâs first single, âSupersonicâ, was released in 1994, meaning that they first became eligible for nomination in 2019, as the Hall of Fame has strict rules on 25 years having to have elapsed since an artistâs first release for them to be nominated.
The 2024 inductees in the performer category were Mary J. Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & The Gang, Ozzy Osbourne and A Tribe Called Quest. The 2025 inductees will be announced in April, with the ceremony taking place later in the year.
