Liam Payne hotel guest shares new details of final hours before tragic death
Liam Payne was staying at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires when he tragically fell to his death on October 16, 2024. A guest who was also staying at the hotel has shared some details about the singer's final hours
A fellow guest at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires has shared heartbreaking details about Liam Payne's final hours before his tragic death. The One Direction singer died at the age of 31 after falling 45ft from a third-floor balcony. His cause of death was given as polytrauma, from multiple traumatic injuries. A toxicology report found that alcohol, cocaine, and a prescribed antidepressant were present in Liam's system.
Doug Jones, who was staying in a room across from Liam in the hotel, has now shared an insight into the singer's final hours. He recalls hearing unsettling sounds of 'clanging, banging and whooping' for several hours leading up to the fatal incident. Doug, a 36 year old Texan who was in Buenos Aires for a friend's wedding, was unaware of Liam's celebrity status while staying just a few doors down.

On October 16, he became aware of unusual activity in room 301 due to the strange noises and constant door slamming, suggesting people were frequently entering and exiting. At one point, Doug had to shout at someone attempting to open his door, with the peculiar sounds from across the hall persisting. He described the noises as becoming increasingly 'bizarre and manic' as the day progressed, reports the Mirror.
"[The shouting] just sounded manic, almost insane," he said in an interview with Rolling Stone. "I heard the loudest one around five, and then I started hearing all the sirens."
Jones revealed he was with his friend Bret Watson, who was about to get married, when Watson tried to check into the room Liam was occupying. Watson had booked room 310 six months prior for his parents to stay in ahead of the wedding. He was informed by hotel staff that it was unavailable because they couldn't get another guest "to check out".
Liam had been in the country with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy, who had flown back to the US before his tragic death.

Kate, 25, recently opened up in an emotional interview with The Sun, in which she explained that her early departure from their trip was due to taking care of their dog, Nala, never imagining the tragedy that would unfold. "I had a responsibility, we had a responsibility," she said. "We had our dog and obviously I never, ever thought this event would occur. Obviously if I knew, if I could see into the future, I would never have left Argentina."
Liam's funeral took place in Buckinghamshire last November. Cheryl Tweedy, the mother of his son Bear, and his One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson were in attendance, along with a host of family and friends.
