Kate Cassidy has admitted she was blindsided by her boyfriend Liam Payne's addiction relapse shortly before his death.
The One Direction star, 31, fell to his death in Argentina in October last year. He died after suffering multiple traumas leading to an "internal and external haemorrhage". The tragedy occurred just days after Kate had left her man to return to the US. She had been with him in the South American country for a number of weeks before decided to head home.
Now, she had claimed his relapse was not her reason for leaving, saying she "genuinely always really did try to do anything I could do to help". In a candid interview, the 25-year-old influencer confessed: "With addiction, you just never know when itâÂÂs going to come out. ItâÂÂs a serious issue that is under-valued and under-spoken about."

In the conversation with The Sun, she said she had supported the singer "through thick and thin," explaining she always wanted to be there for him. However, she honestly admitted she isn't an expert in dealing with the issues he faced. Despite that being the case, she said she loved him no matter what and always did what she could.
"Liam was in such a good headspace when I left Argentina," she claimed. "We were in such a great place, just full of love; he was so happy and positive. And I just canâÂÂt even believe the way things truly ended.
"ItâÂÂs genuinely insane to me how things can just be taken away from you so quickly in life, you never truly know what tomorrow will bring, you never know."
Explaining why she left the star in Argentina, Kate wiped away the tears and said she had responsibilities in Florida. She confessed the duo "did have our own separate lives" and her decision to leave him alone wasn't the first time they'd travelled on their own.
Kate was told of the shattering news of her boyfriend's death by one of his friends. She was at home with their dog Nala at the time. Instantly reacting, she thought the news was a cruel hoax but confessed she had a "bad feeling" that it would be true.
In an instant, her mother got the first flight to Florida to be with Kate, who had "blacked out". In disbelief, she revealed she picked up her phone and called Liam in a bid to speak to him. Following Liam's death, Kate has left the property the pair rented in Florida and returned to her hometown, New Jersey.
Since his death, she has repeatedly been phoning Liam's old phone number just to hear his voicemail greeting. Kate also revealed she used to fall asleep listening to her beau's music â but can no longer face doing so.
