Liam Payne's girlfriend sends hidden message to him in tearful TV interview

Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy has opened up about her grief and the One Direction star's mental health in a new interview with Lorraine for her March4March campaign

Kate Cassidy shared a message to Liam Payne in her first TV interview since his death.

The One Direction star died in a tragic balcony fall in October 2024. Initially, five people were charged over his death - but three of them have now had the charges dropped including Liam's friend Roger Nores, who was with him during his trip in Buenos Aires; Gilda Martin, the manager of the hotel where he died, and Esteban Grassi, the hotel's main receptionist.

In a new interview, Kate explained that she was wearing a necklace, made of angel wings in order to be closer to Liam. When asked about the necklace, she told Lorraine Kelly: "It actually is angel wings, I saw it in a little gift shop a couple of weeks ago and I feel like it spoke to me and matches my angel wing tattoos. I wear it quite often and it once again makes me feel closer to Liam."

During her interview, Kate said she had "never" lost anybody close to her before Liam's tragic death last month. "I've never lost anybody close to me before, so this is my first time dealing with anything like this and going through this grief and healing journey," she said.

Influencer Kate spoke to Lorraine as part of her March4March campaign, encouraging people to get out and about in order to help if they are struggling with their mental health. Speaking about being involved in the campaign, she said: "This campaign speaks volumes to me. Anything I can do in the mental health department to help anybody, I feel like I now want to be able to help people feel less alone and get through grief and healing so anything I can really do to provide that."

But the cause is much closer to Kate's heart, particularly, with the number four being involved. She said: "That's actually the first thing that I noticed when I first read into the campaign. It's called March4March, and the first thing that I was obviously drawn to was the number four. For people that aren't familiar with the number four, it's mine and Liam's angel number which symbolises support and guidance from your angels, and I genuinely believe that Liam guided me to this campaign and wanted me to be involved in this to help other people. It's something that he wanted me to do.

"It's still so special, I see it so often and it's going to be something that's going to be involved in my life forever. Every time I see the number four, I know he's there with me." Kate explained that Liam, who was extremely open about his own struggles with mental health throughout his life would "want" her to be a part of the campaign as "he can no longer help people."

Since Liam's death, Kate admits she's struggled with her own mental health and occasionally finds it difficult to get out of bed – but acknowledges she has to get outside and take herself for a walk in order to clear my head. "I have my better days, I have my harder days but I'm surrounded by such a great support system that I cannot thank enough. Having Nala [hers and Liam's dog] around has helped me so much with my healing journey," she explained.

At the time of Liam's death, Kate posted a heartbreaking tribute to her boyfriend - revealing their plans to marry. She wrote: "I don't even know where to begin. My heart is shattered in ways I can't put into words. I wish you could see the huge impact you've had on the world, even as it feels so dark right now. You brought so much happiness and positivity to everyone-millions of fans, your family, friends, and especially me. You are so incredibly loved.

"You are because I can't say were - my best friend, the love of my life, and everyone you touched felt just as special as I did. Your energy was contagious, lighting up every room you walked into. None of this feels real, and I can't wrap my head around this new reality of not having you here. I'm struggling to figure out how to live in a world without you by my side. Together, we got to be kids again, always finding joy in the smallest things."

She added: "Liam, you had the kindest soul and the most fun-loving spirit. It feels like I've lost the best part of myself. I can't imagine a day without your laughter and love. You brought so much light into my life."

Kate previously revealed she found out Liam had died through one of his friends and instantly "blacked out". Admitting she was grateful she didn't find out via social media, she was at first convinced it was all a horrible rumour.

"I feel blessed I didn’t find out over social media because I just couldn't even imagine that," she said, "I was in our home with our dog, scrolling TikTok and one of Liam's friends called me. That moment, it’s like blank; it’s blacked out in my head. I didn't believe it at first. I thought it was just a rumour. Or something that somebody made up just to get views. Then instantly I just had a bad feeling in my gut. I was like, 'Why would somebody make this up? Is this true?'"

Liam and Kate met when the waitress served him at a bar in Charleston, South Carolina. Liam was attracted to her immediately and asked for her number, but things nearly didn't work out - as she gave him the wrong number. However, in the end, the pair met up again and enjoyed a number of years together before his sad death.
