There was devastation for fans and the music world when Payne died in October 2024 aged 31 after a fall from a hotel balcony
Liam Payne’s grieving girlfriend Kate Cassidy says the singer would have loved a One Direction reunion. The singer joined the hit group in 2010 when they were put together on The X Factor.
One Direction became one of the world’s biggest boybands, with Liam and bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik catapulted to global fame. They went on an indefinite hiatus in January 2016 and the band members decided to pursue solo projects.
There was devastation for fans and the music world when Payne died in October 2024 aged 31 after a fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
His influencer partner Kate, 25, has now told The Sun in her first interview since his tragic death: "Liam loved One Direction. It was such a huge part of his life and career. Who didn’t love them? I think everybody had hopes for a reunion at some point.
“Liam would have been more than happy in the future to do that. He was so proud of the boys. He loved them so much he looked at them as brothers."

The performer’s sudden death left a void not only among his fans but also within the band he helped build. Kate also shared memories from her two-year relationship with the singer, revealing Liam frequently reflected on his time in One Direction.
She said: "One of the first films he put on was the One Direction documentary, ‘This Is Us’. Liam always made the time to go to some of the boys’ concerts to show love and support. He spoke so highly of them all."
Weeks before his tragic death, Liam attended Niall’s solo concert in Buenos Aires, where he shared a photo of the two with the caption "reunited". Despite their bond, Kate did not elaborate on what they discussed, though she described Niall as "great".
