However, some users took to social media to criticize the couple's decision to opt for surrogacy in their post announcing the news.
Collins's husband McDowell didn't hesitate to call out those "fans" for their hurtful comments.

Actress Lily Collins and her husband, Charlie McDowell, welcomed fans into the new month with an announcement about the birth of their daughter.
In a co-posted Instagram statement, the couple wrote, "Welcome to the center of our world, Tove Jane McDowell. Words will never express our endless gratitude for our incredible surrogate and everyone who helped us along the way. We love you to the moon and back again."
Although many fans congratulated the couple, not all the comments under the post were positive.
Some users questioned the couple's choice to use a surrogate; however, McDowell quickly shut down the negative comments with a reply of his own.

The Hollywood director explained that it was okay for those criticizing them not to be an expert on surrogacy and went on to address why someone might need a surrogate to have a child.
"And it's okay to spend less time spewing hateful words into the world, especially in regards to a beautiful baby girl who has brought a lot of love into people's lives. That's all for now because she just pooped, and I need to change her diaper," he concluded.

Hollywood Stars Congratulate Lily Collins And McDowell On Welcoming Their Baby
Since Collins and McDowell announced their daughter's arrival, Hollywood stars have shared their well wishes for the new parents.
Social media personality Sofia Grainge wrote, "Love you all so much! Congratulations."
Lily's "Emily in Paris" co-star Ashley Park declared "Mom and dadddddd."
Meanwhile, "13 Reasons Why" actress Katherine Langford commented, "So happy for you both!"
Actress Jaime Winstone couldn't contain her joy for the couple, noting, "Wow, wow wow!! Mama, huge Congratulations to you and hubby! Beautiful Tove... so happy for you x."
Also, "Modern Family" actress Sarah Hyland "I'm sobbinggggg."
"Vampire Diaries" star Nina Dobrev also took time out to celebrate with the couple using a short string of emojis.

A Desire To Have Kids Made Collins Deal With Her Eating Disorder
Collins' baby announcement might have surprised many, but the actress has long been open about her desire to have children.
During an interview with US Weekly in 2017, Collins revealed that her desire to start a family was what encouraged her to get help for her eating disorder.
"My reason to finally start talking about [my eating disorder] was the moment I realized I wanted a family. I wanted kids. I didn't want this to be something I bring into that," Lily explained.
Lily had been struggling with an eating disorder since she was a teenager, which was her way of feeling in control as she dealt with high school and relationships.
The actress also wanted to attain a particular body shape. However, Lily's priorities changed as she grew older due to her desire for a family.

Collins and McDowell's romance started in 2019 when they met on the set of Collins's movie "Guilded Rage."
The pair would later work together again in the movie "Windfall." However, Collins and McDowell were already dating during this period.
Although the duo hasn't worked together since, Lily still cherishes the experience of being on set with McDowell.
Per Today, Lily said, "There were moments when I completely forgot that he was my husband-to-be and he was just my director. We worked really well together. It was awesome"
The actress also explained that their working relationship was made easier because it constantly felt like an open conversation.
Lily Collins To Start Filming Emily In Paris Season 5 In May
Lily Collins might have just welcomed her daughter, but the actress might soon be back on set to film the season 5 of "Emily In Paris."
After the show was renewed for a fifth season in 2024, filming was scheduled to start in May.
According to Variety, the new season will be filmed in Paris and Rome. Based on previous seasons, filming is expected to last two to four months.
