Linda Nolan has died at the age of 65 after a long battle with secondary breast cancer and just weeks before her tragic death, she shared her heartbreaking wish
Linda Nolan had a heartbreaking family wish just weeks before she died following a long battle with secondary breast cancer.
Linda, 65, shot to fame as part of The Nolans in the 1970s. She died surrounded by her sisters, with her final hours said to be full of love and comfort.
In an interview with Woman magazine shortly before her death, Linda expressed her Christmas wish: "My Christmas wish is that I will be here to see everybody next year as well."
She also voiced her hope for people to be "nicer to each other" in 2025, stating that it "breaks her heart" to witness conflicts on television.
In a moving column penned just a week prior to her death, Linda disclosed her struggle with eating over the festive period, writing: "I became so weak I'd walk a few steps and struggle to catch my breath."
She added: "My legs were even more wobbly than usual and of course although I try not to, I immediately thought of how Bernie (Nolan) was at the end. You think, Oh my God, is this it? "
However, doctors reassured her that it was merely a "bad case of the flu", allowing Linda to celebrate New Year's Eve at her sister Coleen's new home in North Staffordshire.
Tragically, Linda was admitted to hospital on Saturday due to breathing difficulties. Doctors diagnosed double pneumonia and due to her secondary breast cancer, which had spread to her brain, her condition sadly worsened, reports the Manchester Evening News.
In the early hours of Tuesday, Linda Nolan's sisters Anne, 74, Denise, 72, Maureen, 69, and Coleen, 59, were summoned to her hospital bedside as doctors initiated end-of-life care. The family kept a constant vigil by her side.
Linda's agent, Dermot McNamara, released a heartfelt statement to the Mirror: "It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Linda Nolan, the celebrated Irish pop legend, television personality, Guinness World Record holding West End star, Sunday Times bestselling author and Daily Mirror columnist."
"She passed at around 10:20am at Blackpool Victoria Hospital on the MCEW Ward. The family said the hospital couldn't do enough, they were tireless and made it so much more bearable."
The statement further read: "She passed peacefully, with her loving siblings by her bedside, ensuring she was embraced with love and comfort during her final moments. Linda's legacy extends beyond her incredible achievements in music and entertainment. She was a beacon of hope and resilience, sharing her journey to raise awareness and inspire others. Rest in peace, Linda. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten."
Linda had been first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005, receiving the all-clear in 2011, only for the disease to return six years later when tumours were discovered in her hip bone and pelvis.
Linda, just like her sister Bernie who passed away at 52 in 2013, was diagnosed with an untreatable secondary breast cancer.
However, she chose to harness her celebrity status and sense of humour to support others enduring similar battles, including her sister Anne, who received a stage three breast cancer diagnosis in 2020, only days before Linda learnt her own cancer had metastasized to her liver.
The sisters went through chemotherapy together and while Anne went into remission, Linda's cancer could only be slowed down and not cured. In 2023, she was told the cancer had spread to her brain.
In 2023, the devastating news came that the cancer had invaded her brain. Nearing the festive period, a candid Linda shared her fears with The Mirror, admitting it might be her final Christmas.
"I try to stay positive," she said in December. "I'll use jokes and humour as a way to cope, but of course it's scary. And I have my days where I'm terribly down."
