Love Island's Olivia Bowen shares she was expecting twins before tragic loss
Olivia Bowen has revealed she was pregnant with twins before tragically losing one of the babies - and has opened up about the heartbreaking experience of vanishing twin syndrome
Olivia Bowen has shared the devastating news that she has lost one of her twins. The Love Island star, who is married to Alex Bowen after they met on the ITV2 dating show, was overjoyed when they discovered they were expecting twins just before Christmas. The couple, who first crossed paths on series two of Love Island in 2016, had expressed their desire to expand their family after welcoming their son Abel in 2022. Olivia has previously opened up about her struggles with postnatal depression following a traumatic and lengthy birth that required an episiotomy.
She revealed they weren't in a hurry to have another child but decided to try again while on holiday in Dubai in November. Just three weeks later, Olivia found out she was pregnant. They booked an early scan at six weeks, where they learned they were expecting twins. The doctor informed them that one baby was "slightly bigger" but reassured them it was "normal and they look good". Olivia confessed she never thought she could have twins and was completely taken aback by the news. Unable to contain their excitement, they announced to their family and friends on Christmas Eve that they were soon to become a family of five, reports the Mirror.

However, two weeks later, during a scan to check on the smaller baby's growth, Olivia and Alex were hit with heartbreaking news.
Olivia opened up about the heart-wrenching moment she and her partner Alex discovered they had lost one of their twins during a routine scan, telling The Sun: "As we looked at the screen, you could see that one baby was so much bigger than the other. And then the sonographer told us that the smaller baby had no heartbeat," she emotionally shared. "I just didn't believe it. I sat there thinking: 'No, it's going to come back.' And what made me more upset was seeing Alex's face, because he had been so positive."
She described how Alex became "so quiet" while she herself felt "numb" after learning she had experienced vanishing twin syndrome.

Olivia didn't have to undergo surgery as the embryo was naturally absorbed by her body, but the knowledge that the baby was still inside her was difficult to bear. "Knowing that the baby was still inside me was hard, though I had a scan two days ago and they told me it's just gone. I felt relieved, but then I felt immediately guilty," she confessed.
The TV personality has found it challenging to navigate her grief while still pregnant with a healthy baby. Following the loss, Olivia fell into a deep depression and struggled with everyday life until therapy provided her some solace.
She's now speaking out in hopes of supporting others who might be going through similar experiences.

Last month, the lovebirds shared a lovely video with their followers to announce they're expecting baby number two. In an adorable post, they penned, "A moment, a love," and added, "Baby no2 - we're waiting for you."
The January 6 social media video opens with Olivia surprising Alex with the positive pregnancy test while he's unwinding on the couch.
They also shared a cute clip of little Abel donning a 'Big Brother 2025' sweatshirt. Plus, there was a heartwarming scene of the entire family in festive pyjamas next to the Christmas tree, lovingly displaying the ultrasound images.
