Love Island star received racist abuse from trolls after joining Netflix show
Love Island's Whitney Adebayo received death threats and racial abuse from trolls after taking part in Netflix's Inside
Love Island star Whitney Adebayo revealed she was the target of racial abuse and death threats after she took part in Netflix series, Inside. The seven-day competition, which debuted as a livestream on YouTube last year and moved to Netflix for series two, places a group of social media influencers under one roof, where they vie for a ÂŁ1 million prize pot.
To raise the stakes even higher, the housemates have to purchase everyday items from an on-site shop that sells everything at extortionate prices, including basic luxuries such as coffee, which can cost hundreds of pounds. Every penny spent in the shop is deducted from the final prize, forcing the group to work together to preserve as much money as possible.

Although the 27-year-old initially tried to brave the challenge, she forfeited before she could even answer one question. The task lost the team ÂŁ10,000 but her reaction was completely relatable.
Other stars in the show include Mya Mills, Mandi Vakili, George Clarke, Darryl Dwayne Granberry and Patrice Evra. While the show has been a huge hit with fans, Whitney was subject to vile racial abuse from trolls - who also sent her death threats.
â
She shared screenshots of the messages she received on her Instagram Stories. Many used racial slurs against her and many wished death upon her. The star also took to her grid to post pictures from the show as she reminded people that "racism is still very much embedded in British culture".
Whitney wrote: "Iâd like to take the time and address something important after the airing of Inside on Netflix. I was a contestant on the show, where the goal was to win a million pounds while navigating the challenge of saving and spending money.
â
"I was a âspenderâ by nature, which added some fun and drama to the show, but itâs important to remember that everything you saw was a part of the game, designed for entertainment. Iâve received a mix of reactionsâsome positive, some negative.
"But what Iâve encountered more than anything is the reality of racism. I understand that being in the spotlight brings criticism, but what Iâve experienced the past few days goes beyond criticism.
She continued: "This evil, hatred and pure racism and should not be tolerated. The hateful messages, the death threats, and the unjust treatment Iâve received are not only hurtful, but they also serve as a reminder that racism is still very much embedded in British culture. This isnât just about a TV show; itâs about the way society can sometimes respond to women like me, women who may stand out or donât fit a certain mold of being cute and mute. For those of you who have supported me, thank you.

It only fuels my determination to grow and to be unapologetically myself. I had the best time, however my journey has come to an end. Love me or hate me, either way I know you were entertained. Youâre welcome."
