Lucy Liu remembers calling out Bill Murray's "inexcusable" language on 'Charlie's Angels' set
The 'Kill Bill' actor has no regrets
Kill Bill and Shazam! Fury Of The Gods star Lucy Liu has looked on back on revealing her on-set argument with Charlieâs Angels co-star Bill Murray, saying she doesnât regret calling out the actor.
In 2021, Liu appeared on the Los Angeles Times podcast Asian Enough, talking about a confrontation with Murray, whom she claimed began to âhurl insultsâ at her through frustration at a particular sceneâs rewrite.
âI couldnât believe that [his comments] could be towards meâ she said, âBecause what do I have to do with anything majorly important at that time?â
She continued: âI said, âIâm so sorry. Are you talking to me?ââ and clearly he was, because then it started to become a one-on-one communicationâ. Liu described Murrayâs language as âinexcusable and unacceptable.â

Over three years after talking about it, Liu spoke to The Guardian about why she made the revelation. âI really didnât think about it. I would have done that in any situation. I think when I sense something is not right, I am going to protect myself. Itâs an innate thing to do if you feel thereâs injustice, and I always feel that wayâ.
She then described herself as someone who wonât keep quiet about bad behaviour. âIf I was, it would have been a much easier road. But because Iâve never been that person, we had to find a wayâ she explained.

Murray has not spoken about the incident, although in 2022 production on the film Being Mortal was suspended due to allegations of his inappropriate behaviour.
The Ghostbusters star commented on the claims to CNBC shortly after the news broke, saying: âI had a difference of opinion with a woman Iâm working with. I did something I thought was funny, and it wasnât taken that wayâ. He continued: âThe world is different than it was when I was a little kid. What I always thought was funny as a little kid isnât necessarily the same as whatâs funny nowâ.
Recently, Liu appeared in VR game The Pirate Queen: A Forgotten Legend, and spoke to NME about the process of storytelling in a different medium. Meanwhile, Murray has embarked on a US singing tour, performing covers of Bob Dylan and The Kinks.
