Luke Littler's brother was better than him - now he refuses to play against him
The older brother of new darts world champion Luke Littler has revealed that he won't play his sibling at the oche because he doesn't want to 'embarrass himself'
Luke Littler's older brother, Leon, refuses to play darts against the newly crowned world champion, fearing he might "embarrass himself".
The 17-year-old darting sensation claimed his first World Championship title at Alexandra Palace last week with a commanding victory over Michael Van Gerwen.
Despite his young age, Littler's talent has been undeniable, although he concedes that there was a time when his brother outshone him. Speaking to The Guardian in January 2024, Littler reflected: "My brother was actually as good as me, at one point he was better than me. When lockdown hit, he stopped playing but he's trying to get back into it. It's good to see him falling back in love with the game."
Now, Leon avoids playing against his world champion sibling, half-jokingly admitting that not even during festive times would Littler let him win. However, Leon takes great joy in witnessing his brother's rise to the top.
He commented on the prospect of playing against Luke: "I don't do it. I'm not going to embarrass myself. He's not going to let me win for a Christmas present is he? I used to play him all the time but I love watching him. Seeing my brother at that age, makes me happy because I know how good he is and how good he was. Even at the age of 10, he was showing signs of being a good player. We just didn't know we were going to be here twice in a row."
Littler, known for his darting prowess since the tender age of 18 months, truly upped his game during lockdown. He dedicated "hours and hours a day" to perfecting his craft in solitude, a commitment that led to him clinching titles, reports the Mirror.
Fresh from his historic win last week, which netted him half a million, 'The Nuke' has taken a well-deserved break to sunny Benidorm. Despite his recent windfall, he chose budget airline Ryanair for his travels, accompanied by his family â parents Lisa and Anthony, sister Caitlin and brother Leon, who brought along his partner and their baby.
While soaking up the Spanish sun, Littler, who is set to celebrate his 18th birthday in just a few weeks, dropped by the Bar Players Sports Bar in Albir. There, he supported his 21-year-old brother Leon in a darts competition.
The bar was thrilled with the visit, taking to social media to share snaps of the world champion and his entourage, captioning: "Last night saw the first darts tournament of 2025 and what a night it was. With a special appearance from the Darts Champion of the World Luke Littler and his family and friends."
