Movie star Jeremy Renner says he briefly died when he was crushed by his 14,000-pound PistenBully Snowcat in Lake Tahoe, an accident that put him in a hospital with critical injuries.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports Renner, 54, writes about the 2023 incident in his memoir âMy Next Breath,â which was released Tuesday.
âAs I lay on the ice, my heart rate slowed, and right there, on that New Yearâs Day, unknown to my daughter, my sisters, my friends, my father, my mother, I just got tired,â Renner writes in the book. âAfter about 30 minutes on the ice of breathing manually for so long, an effort akin to doing 10 or 20 pushÂups per minute for half an hour ... thatâs when I died.â
Renner tells People that writing about the accident has been âcathartic.â The actor, who has starred in multiple Marvel films and also in the âMission Impossibleâ series, broke more than 35 bones. He also writes that he saw âmy left eye with my right eyeâ because of injuries to his head, People reports.
âIâm not haunted by the incident â not too often anyway â by the images, the sounds,â Renner tells People. âBut I am reminded of my new reality and itâs wonderfully positive. I didnât die.â
Renner was injured while trying to prevent his nephew from being hit by the plow, People reports. He says he was inspired to recover by his 9-year-old daughter, Ava, according to CBS News.
âShe was my fuel to get better,â Renner said. âShe gets better if I get better. All I have to do is get better for her.â
