Man City vs Chelsea postponement latest as Met Office issues Storm Eowyn warning
Manchester City are preparing to host Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday evening in crucial clash for Pep Guardiola's side
Manchester City's crucial Premier League clash with Chelsea on Saturday evening is due to go ahead despite doubts surfacing thanks to Storm Eowyn.
While not as badly affected as some places in the UK, Greater Manchester has been hit with strong winds throughout Friday. The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for the region and wind speeds are believed to have hit as high as 62mph this morning.
Such weather led to the weather experts announcing that incidents such as; tiles blowing off roofs and power cuts were expected. Meanwhile, disruption was also expected on the transport links throughout the city.
In the past, wind speeds of these magnitudes have been cause for postponing sporting fixtures with the authorities wary of putting supporters in harms way. Thankfully however, fans heading to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening for the 5:30pm kick off should be able to attend without fear of postponement.
The current weather warning in place is due to end at 11:59pm on Friday night, with wind speeds calming as the night goes on. While it shall remain windy for the game, the Met Office has chosen not to provide another weather warning for the fixture.
During the match, winds shall reach a maximum of 25mph which should not prove to be a significant problem. This update is undoubtedly good news for City who are determined to get back to winning ways after a nightmare evening in Paris on Wednesday.
Despite going 2-0 ahead thanks to Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland, City crumbled to a 4-2 defeat to leave them on the verge of elimination from the Champions League. The Blues must now beat Club Brugge next week to qualify for the play-offs.
First though is Chelsea and a victory shall move Pep Guardiola's side above the visitors and into the Champions League spots.
