Man United regular risks becoming the latest to be shunned by Ruben Amorim
Manchester United's head coach is not afraid of dropping anyone permanently until they learn their lesson and one player is desperately close to that now
Ruben Amorim has been quick to try and eradicate what he sees as being the wrong attitude at Manchester United during his short spell at the club to date.
For the Manchester derby in December, Amorim chose to drop both Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford from the team entirely after being unimpressed with their work rate in training. The former chose to take on board Amorim's comments and has become a threat for the club again; the latter never recovered and is plying his trade in the west Midlands.
This no-nonsense approach has been refreshing to see and has certainly earned him admirers in the fanbase. However, results have not followed suit.
Saturday looked set to be epitomised by the performance of one regular in particular until he departed the pitch. Rasmus Hojlund was desperately disappointing in the 70 minutes he was on the field this weekend.
Rasmus Hojlund reacts during a nightmare Manchester United performance against Everton
The Dane wandered around aimlessly at the top of the pitch, failing to provide United with a much-needed outlet to relieve pressure from Everton. Towards the end of his spell on Merseyside, it felt like Hojlund had simply given up.
Yes, there are caveats to be made particularly as it was not as if everyone else was pulling their weight. But, Hojlund's negativity in the attack leads you to think that Amorim could be ready to shun him from at least the starting XI on Wednesday night when they host Ipswich Town.
In the final 20 minutes, 17-year-old Chido Obi was given an opportunity to impress and you have to say the former Arsenal man showed more than what Hojlund did. While he is clearly not the finished product, you can see there is a willingness to impress from Obi that seems to have departed Hojlund and that's concerning for his United future.
If Rashford can be cast aside in less than two months, there is no reason why the same cannot happen to any other United player - including Hojlund.
