Manchester United exited the FA Cup at the hands of Fulham in the fifth round of the competition at Old Trafford on Sunday, losing 4-3 on penalties.

The contest had finished 1-1 after 120 minutes, meaning United's hopes of extending their defence of their crown boiled down to spot kicks. However, Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee were both denied by Bernd Leno, meaning Fulham progressed to the quarter-finals.

Away from matters at Old Trafford, United's army of loanees experienced contrasting emotions, both domestically and overseas. The club has a plethora of players out on loan after overseeing several exits during the January transfer window.

With that said, MEN Sport has taken a close look at how those in action over the weekend got on.

Marcus Rashford made his second start in Aston Villa colours as they beat Championship side Cardiff City 2-0 to progress to the FA Cup quarter-finals on Friday night. Starting on the left flank, the United loanee supplied the assist for the first of Marco Asensio's two goals.

Rashford stored 82 minutes under his belt before being replaced by Morgan Rogers. The former has three assists in six games for Villa.

Antony was the other headline departure in the January window, joining Real Betis for the rest of the season, and he helped the Seville outfit beat La Liga title hopefuls Real Madrid 2-1 on Saturday evening. Madrid have now won just one of their last five league matches.

Though he did not add to his list of direct goal contributions by scoring or assisting, Antony started on the right flank and played the full 90 minutes. He completed 90 per cent of his 35 attempted passes and won six tackles.

Back on home soil, Ethan Williams continued his impressive run of form as Cheltenham Town drew 1-1 with Grimsby Town in League Two on Saturday. He opened the scoring in the first half, firing in an accurate left-footed drive from the edge of the penalty area.

It marked the winger's second goal in his last three games and his fourth direct goal contribution in four. He has four direct goal contributions in four starts for the Robins.

Elsewhere in League Two, Rhys Bennett started in the heart of the Fleetwood Town defence as they drew 2-2 at home with promotion hopefuls Notts County. He stored the full 90 minutes under his belt, completing seven clearances, winning three tackles and blocking two shots in a strong defensive showing.

Meanwhile, Ethan Ennis appeared as a second half substitute as Doncaster Rovers beat Newport County 3-0 to move to within three points of the League Two summit.

However, Sonny Aljofree, Sam Mather and Joe Hugill were all unused substitutes for Accrington Stanley, Tranmere Rovers and Carlisle United respectively. Elsewhere, Louis Jackson was not included in the Tranmere squad, likewise Ethan Wheatley at Walsall.

In the National League, Jack Kingdon was not included in Rochdale's matchday squad as they progressed to the semi-finals of the FA Trophy with a 2-0 win over Altrincham. He has not featured in either of the last two games.

Overseas, Tyrell Malacia started for PSV Eindhoven as they lost 3-2 away at Go Ahead Eagles. He played the full 90 minutes and was booked just before half-time.

Elsewhere, young goalkeeper Radek Vitek started as Blau-Weiss Linz beat WSG Tirol 2-1. The shot-stopper has made 16 appearances for the Austrian club this season, keeping six clean sheets.
