Man appears in court charged over Trump Turnberry golf course vandalism
Donald Trump criticised those responsible for the damage ahead of Kieran Robson's court appearance.
A man has appeared in court accused of maliciously damaging US President Donald Trump’s Turnberry golf course earlier this month.
Kieran Robson, 33, appeared in private at Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday, March 31, and was charged with malicious mischief following the incident on Saturday, March 8.
Article continues belowPolice were called to the 800-acre golf resort on Maidens Road near Girvan, South Ayrshire, at around 4.40am where the alleged vandalism was described as "a childish, criminal act" by a Trump Turnberry spokesperson.
Robson, of Galashiels in the Scottish Borders, made no plea during the brief hearing and was committed for further examination and released on bail pending a further court appearance.
Speaking ahead of Robson's court appearance, Trump blasted those responsible, branding them "terrorists" and calling for harsh punishments to be imposed.
In a post on his Truth Social account on Sunday, Mr Trump said: "I was just informed by Prime Minister Starmer of the United Kingdom, that they caught the terrorists who attacked the beautiful Turnberry, in Scotland.
"They did serious damage, and will hopefully be treated harshly." Mr Trump claimed "three people who did this are in prison", adding: "You cannot let things like this attack happen."
"I greatly appreciate the work of Prime Minister Starmer, and UK Law Enforcement."
A 75-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman were previously arrested as part of the investigation and have since been released. Police Scotland have said that, despite the arrests, enquiries into the incident are still ongoing.
Palestine Action said on social media it was a “direct response to the US administration’s stated intent to ethnically cleanse Gaza”.
Mr Trump’s recent comments include plans to “clean out the whole thing”.
