Man climbs Big Ben and drapes himself in Palestine flag as police shut bridge

A barefoot protester scaled Big Ben while brandishing a Palestinian flag. Dressed in black, with no shoes, he was seen starting his ascent just before 8am and remains on the iconic London monument as of 2pm.
The event unfurled mere hours before a pro-Palestinian demonstration was scheduled to take place outside the BBC's Portland Place offices at 1pm. In response to the situation, authorities closed Westminster Bridge to traffic in both directions.
At about 10am, rescue teams used a fire brigade ladder to hoist three emergency workers aloft in an effort to communicate with the climber, using a megaphone, as reported by PA.
A Met Police spokesperson commented: "At 7.24am on Saturday March 8 officers were alerted to a man climbing up the Elizabeth Tower at the Houses of Parliament." Read the biggest stories in Wales first by signing up to our daily newsletter here
They continued, "Officers are at the scene working to bring the incident to a safe conclusion. They are being assisted by the London Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service."
