Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has warned against the club bringing Wayne Rooney back as part of Ruben Amorim’s coaching staff.
Rooney, United’s all-time top scorer, is currently without a managerial role following his dismissal after a brief 25-game stint with Championship side Plymouth.

His previous tenure at Birmingham City, alongside NFL legend Tom Brady, also ended prematurely after just 83 days.
Despite his recent struggles, Rooney has expressed openness to returning to football in a coaching capacity, including working with an Under-21 team or as part of a backroom staff.
This has fueled speculation that he could return to Old Trafford to assist with United’s struggling attack.
However, Parker, speaking to GOAL in association with Instant Casino, questioned Rooney’s coaching credentials.
“Rooney hasn’t done great as a manager; it hasn’t worked out at all,” Parker said. “To bring him back to coach the centre-forwards isn’t really going to work.
“He knows Manchester United, but does he know about coaching? It’s been proven that he doesn’t know enough at this moment.”
Parker argued that Amorim is unlikely to take such a risk.
“Sir Alex Ferguson was never afraid to bring in top coaches if he thought they would improve the team.
“But today, if Rooney or any other high-profile name comes in, the media will jump on it. Amorim has his trusted people, and I don’t see him going down that road,” he added.
