Martina McBride Mourns Passing of Her Father in Heartbreaking Social Media Post
Martina McBride is grieving the loss of her father, country singer Daryl Schiff, who died Jan. 14, 2025, at age 86.

Martina McBride, who gained a following on the â90s country music scene with hits like âIndependence Dayâ and âA Broken Wing,â is mourning the loss of her father. The four-time CMA vocalist of the year penned a touching social media tribute to Daryl Schiff, who died Tuesday (Jan. 14) at age 86.
âOur hearts are broken,â McBride wrote in the caption. She described her father as a man with âthe kindest blue eyes and a great laugh.â

Daryl Schiff, a third-generation dairy farmer in Sharon, Kansas, introduced his daughter to country music at a young age.
âAlways, since I can remember, he had a band,â Martina McBride said during a 2021 interview at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. âAnd when I was real little, they would rehearse in the living room. He was always playing guitar and singing. Heâd come in from the field and play.â
At age 7, McBride started singing in her fatherâs band, The Schiffters. âIâm so grateful⊠that he did include us kids in that, because he could have just gone out and played dances,â she said. âBut they did include us, and it was a great way to have experience performing as a kid.â
As she grew older, the âWrong Againâ singer graduated to playing keyboard. In 1989, she moved to Nashville with new husband John McBride to make their country music dreams a reality. After performing as the opening act for Garth Brooks, McBride scored a contract with RCA Nashville Records in 1991. A year later, she released her debut studio album, The Time Has Come.

The father-daughter collaboration didnât end when Martina McBrideâs career took off. In fact, she produced Schiffâs 2021 record Satisfied, which also featured her brother, Marty Schiff.
They even shared the stage together a time or two, including for this medley of Hank Thompsonâs âThe Wild Side of Lifeâ and Kitty Wellsâ âIt Wasnât God Who Made Honky-Tonk Angels,â below.
âItâs a really special night for me tonight, because I am able to bring someone out here on this stage who I have heard sing since I was a baby, and who really taught me how to sing,â McBride said. âPlease welcome my dad, Daryl Schiff.â

On January 18, the popular variety show aired a sneak peek of its upcoming Lunar New Year special, which will feature three celebrity family duos as guests. KISS OF LIFEâs Belle and STAYCâs Sieun will appear together with their respective fathers Shim Sin and Park Nam Jung, both of whom are legendary singers in Korea. Sisters BIBI and tripleSâs NaKyoung will also be guesting on the show together.
In the newly released preview, Sieun dances with Park Nam Jung to his iconic hit âDreaming of You,â which is famous for its choreography. Meanwhile, Shim Sin sings KISS OF LIFEâs hit song âStickyâ together in a special duet with Belle.
After BIBI enviously says she wishes she were Park Nam Jungâs or Shim Sinâs daughter, she remarks that she and sister NaKyoung didnât fight much while they were growing up. However, NaKyoung swiftly begs to differ, insisting they fought a lot. Later, the two siblings playfully sing Block Bâs âNillili Mamboâ together.
The guests and âKnowing Brosâ cast members then don hanbok (traditional Korean clothing) to play a guessing game together. When Sieun argues with her dad over a story about an amusement park trip, Lee Sang Minâwho doesnât have children of his ownâwoefully shares, âI want to argue with my daughter too.â
Finally, the preview ends with a brief glimpse of Sieun and Park Nam Jung performing âA Whole New Worldâ from the âAladdinâ soundtrack together.
