Matt Tebbutt, who hosts Saturday Kitchen, opened up about the future of the show during an appearance on Grilled by The Staff Canteen podcast. While reflecting on the changing landscape of television and his own career, the chef revealed that he’s aware Saturday Kitchen may not last forever. Tebutt hinted that there might be new ventures on the horizon for him once his time on Saturday Kitchen ends. "It’s going to stop at some point. I’m going to have to do something," Tebbutt said when asked whether he would ever return to the restaurant industry. "Never say never. Maybe that’s the time to do it."

Tebbutt became a fixture on Saturday morning telly in 2016 when he started hosting the BBC show. However, as the media landscape evolves and more viewers flock to social media platforms such as YouTube for their cooking inspiration, Matt has acknowledged that the future of Saturday Kitchen is unknown. He previously shared: "We sort of carry on making the best show we can, people still love it, they're still watching it, in their millions fortunately. So it's still got a huge place but I think going forward, TV in general will have to address how it's viewed."

Despite these shifts in the way media is consumed, Tebbutt remains optimistic about the show's immediate future. In December of 2024 he confirmed that Saturday Kitchen would return in the new year, adding that it continues to enjoy a large and loyal viewership.

When quizzed on his potential return to the hospitality industry on the podcast, Tebbutt acknowledged that the thought of returning to restaurant life does cross his mind from time to time.

He added: "Every now and again I have to stop myself because you have to remember how hard that job is. It can be hugely rewarding, but it’s a proper hard graft."

Rumours have also been swirling that Matt Tebbutt could be set to replace Gregg Wallace as co-host and judge on MasterChef and its spin-off, MasterChef: The Professionals.

The Sun's insider sources have indicated that he is currently in talks with BBC producers to join John Torode on the show, following Wallace’s departure in November 2024 after several allegations of misconduct.

While the details are still under wraps, Tebbutt’s rise to fame on Saturday Kitchen and his experience as a judge on Great British Menu have positioned him as a strong contender to take over the role.

While on Grilled by The Staff, Tebbutt was also asked about the frequent rotation of chefs on Saturday Kitchen. He explained that the programme allocates slots to its star chefs, so while there may appear to be a "pool of chefs" that frequently appear on the show, there is a concerted effort to introduce new talent.

He added: "There are only so many slots a year, and if you’re getting three slots a year, you’re doing really well. It’s not up to me. I meet so many great chefs and I just can’t get them on."
