Matthew Perry received 27 shots of ketamine in his three final days, a new documentary claims.
Perry, who played Chandler Bing in hit US sitcom Friends, died from the âacute effectsâ of drugs on October 28, 2023 after falling back into addiction.
Released on the Peacock channel, Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy looks at the months before his death aged 54.
US attorney Martin Estrada - who oversaw the case as Californiaâs chief prosecutor before stepping down in January - alleges Perry had been administered 27 doses of ketamine outside of his prescribed drug therapy for anxiety and depression by âpeople who should have known much betterâ.
Five people have been charged in connection with Perryâs death.
An investigation unearthed a broad underground criminal network taking advantage of the American-Canadian actor, who set up a sober living facility for men with similar issues.
During the last few weeks of his life, Perry turned to street dealer Erik Fleming who is said to have sourced ketamine from Jasveen Sangha - named by authorities as âthe ketamine queenâ.
Sangha is due to face trial in Los Angeles on March 4 alongside Salvador Plasencia, a doctor who allegedly used Perryâs live-in assistant Kenneth Iwamasa to distribute ketamine to the actor from September to October 2023.
Another professional Dr Mark Chavez was the last defendant to admit to conspiring to distribute the surgical anaesthetic ketamine following the death of Perry.
âShoot me up with a big one,â Perry reportedly his assistant before asking him to prepare his hot tub.
After running some errands, Iwamasa returned to the home and found Perry face down in the water.
Estrada tells the TV show aired on Tuesday: âIn the past, we used to call these things overdose deaths and do more blaming of the victim.
âWe donât do that anymore. We blame the drug dealers, the drug sellers, for taking advantage of those addiction issues to cause death or serious injury, and thatâs why we bring these cases. âThe big takeaway from this case is that when people involved in reckless activity, whether that be drug dealing or other activity, cause the death of others, there needs to be accountability.â
Perry shot to fame in the hit Nineties sitcom opposite Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow.
