Matty Healy has responded to rumours that he is including a song about his relationship with Taylor Swift on The 1975’s next album.

Both artists are widely speculated to have dated briefly in the summer of 2023, following Swift’s split from boyfriend of six years Joe Alwyn and before the start of her current relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce.

Many fans also believe that there are numerous nods to the reported relationship with Healy on the pop star’s latest release, 2024’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, although this hasn’t been confirmed by the singer.

Now, Matty Healy has responded to speculation that he is set to return the favour on his upcoming sixth album with The 1975.

Over the weekend, The Sun reported that the forthcoming LP is going to include a track called ‘God Has Entered My Body’, which contains the line: “Keep your head up Princess, your tiara is falling”.

Unsurprisingly, the report was quick to get both Swifties and The 1975 fans alike talking, with many debating whether or not the rumours could be true. The claims by The Sun have also caught the attention of the frontman himself, who took to social media to share his own response.

Replying to a post on Reddit about the report, Healy – going by his handle @TrumanBlackOG – simply wrote “Huge if true”, with no further details.

Although Healy has kept his cards close to his chest regarding whether or not the album will contain any nods to Swift, the speculation does come just months after he said in an interview that he has no intention to write any music inspired by his short-term relationships.

“Last year I became a way more well-known public figure for loads of different reasons,” he told Doomscroll in November. “I think that a lot of artists […] become interested in the things that have happened outside of their art that people know about and they want to address that, and fair enough.”

“Honestly, I would kind of just be lying if I made a record about […] my casual romantic liaisons – or whatever it may be that I’ve kind of become known for just because I was famous.”

Songs on ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ that are rumoured to be about Healy include the title track – which refers to an ex smoking, name drops Healy’s former close friend Lucy Dacus, and seems to allude to the 1975 song ‘Chocolate’ – and ‘The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived’.

Last June, it was reported that Healy was left “blindsided” by the album, and a source claimed he found it “hilarious” because they were “never serious”. It was also reported that Healy was “uncomfortable” with the attention from the album but was “relieved” it wasn’t worse.

When asked by paparazzi how he felt about his “Taylor diss track”, he replied: “My diss track? Oh! I haven’t really listened to that much of it, but I’m sure it’s good.”

The reported upcoming album by The 1975 will mark their sixth LP, following on from 2022’s ‘Being Funny In A Foreign Language’.

The frontman first hinted at the upcoming release at a live show, then he told fans that the band were already underway with work on new material. The news came after they declared that they would be going on an “indefinite hiatus” after the 2024 ‘Still… At Their Very Best’ UK tour.
